Yes, but the rest of the GOP isn’t going to let them destroy the Party!

If Trump doesn’t get 1237 delegates it is going to be a very big deal.

If he can’t win the nomination on the first ballot the GOPe insiders will steal the nomination. You can expect Jeb to be the candidate.

‘But there are people up or reelection in tough races throughout the United States who need those “New” Republican ‘

You are right. We should divide the GOPe - convince those up for re-election to side with Trump to get re-elected. When they are divided, they will have a much harder time to shove their own ‘nominee’ down our throat?

“the Sea Island Republicans (& Dems) are already talking about letting delegates vote freely on the first ballot...”

Trillions are hanging in the balance now. I think they’ll do this and will bribe each delegate for the vote they want-perhaps $1mm per. These people command billions. They could afford this-and call it a business expense.

In his speech last night Cruz did his same old rant about having been able to beat Trump over and over and over again.

“And the Sea Island Republicans are already talking about letting delegates vote freely on the first ballot instead of who they are pledged to vote for.”

If they try that, then perhaps Trump may well cut loose his people and show the GOPe just what he’s capable of (but had never considered doing, in the past) - and simply prevent the convention from even taking place in Cleveland.

It is VERY HIGH STAKES stuff - if I were a delegate there and were going to double-cross Trump, I’d wear a ski mask and use a fake name, just as judges had to do at mafia trials in Italy.

It’s one thing to use the rules to prevent Trump from being the nominee if he doesn’t reach the 1247 votes (or whatever the number is) - it is TOTALLY SOMETHING ELSE to CHANGE those rules after he reaches 1247.

That is nonsense and being spread by Rush to get voters all riled up.

All of the commenters last night - CNN, MSNB and Fox all stated very clearly that to not give it to Trump, whether he has all the delegates of 75% would be suicide for the party if denied.

I will take advice of career insiders over a man who makes his living off radio audience participation.

Oh no, no one voting GOP if they attempted to steal the nomination. In fact it is likely a 3rd Party would be formed by Trump.

I believe the GOP elite will happily countenance absolute chaos on the right, if it means that they get to suck on the Federal money hose for a bit longer.

If I'm right - and I really hope I'm wrong - we must indeed be prepared for a third party. If Trump wins the nomination fair and square - but Lucy moves the football and he is denied the party nomination - then there would be no other choice.

No better year for it. The Left is divided and Shrillary is an unbelievably awful candidate. Trump has enormous faults but he has one colossal virtue: he is voicing the fury of the People.

I really think a Trump/Cruz ticket is the winner, and it will prepare Cruz for a run in 2020. I can’t imagine Trump will want two terms, really.

In the meantime, they can both back Freedom Caucus candidates for Congress and get us ready to clean out the GOPe. The head of the party (President Trump) determines and controls the GOPe, whcih means every one who attacked him is fired.

I have to say that I wouldn't buy a dog on the advice on career insiders who go on CNN, MSNB and Fox.

The fact that the talking-heads on legacy media are apparently marching in lockstep talking down the possibility of a great GOP betrayal; this is not as reassuring as one might think.

Very nice summary. My only concern with Trump is how he will change once elected??? Cruz is a proven Constitutionalist with the voting record to prove it.

You are incorrect. Oh, technically, you are right. However, what Gingrich was saying was that neither of them would allow the establishment to steal the election from them. He very clearly indicated that the two of them would work out some kind of deal and their votes would be combined on the first ballot. So while you are technically correct, according to Gingrich you are realistically incorrect.

CNN said Cruz is counting his second place finishes as “beating” Trump (when he was 3rd). LOL.

Trump will get a TON from MO win because of the way the delegates are apportioned there.

It. Would. Destroy. The. Party’s. Chances. In. November.

Yes, it would. The question is: Do. They. Care?

I believe they Do. Not. Care.

Unless it inflicts pain on them, personally. It might do that if they are worried about losing an elected seat, personally.

Many of the Party leaders do not have to worry about that.
