When Justice Antonin Scalia died 11 days ago at a West Texas ranch, he was among high-ranking members of an exclusive fraternity for hunters called the International Order of St. Hubertus, an Austrian society that dates back to the 1600s.
After Scalia's death Feb. 13, the names of the 35 other guests at the remote resort, along with details about Scalia's connection to the hunters, have remained largely unknown. A review of public records shows that some of the men who were with Scalia at the ranch are connected through the International Order of St. Hubertus, whose members gathered at least once before at the same ranch for a celebratory weekend.
Members of the worldwide, male-only society wear dark green robes emblazoned with a large cross and the motto "Deum Diligite Animalia Diligentes," which means "Honoring God by honoring His creatures," according to the group's website. Some hold titles, such as Grand Master, Prior and Knight Grand Officer. The Order's name is in honor of Hubert, the patron saint of hunters and fishermen. ...
Cibolo Creek Ranch owner John Poindexter and C. Allen Foster, a prominent Washington attorney who traveled to the ranch with Scalia by private plane, hold leadership positions within the Order. It is unclear what, if any, official association Scalia had with the group. ... The society's U.S. chapter launched in 1966 at the famous Bohemian Club in San Francisco, which is associated with the all-male Bohemian Grove - one of the most notorious secret societies in the country.

“Dad never talked to me about the Masons.”
Interesting that your Dad never tried to get you to join.
There was a Scottish Rite Church across from my grade school, we went there once for something. It creeped me out but I think I was guided by prejudice and what other kids said, and my mom didn’t like them either.
Many years later, after we’d grown, I was talking to one of my brothers about it and he got mad at me cause he’s good friends with a Mason.
I can think of some people that should be hunted. I can't say who of course, FR has rules and this country has laws.
I think this "society" is very likely just a really old hunting club that likes to play frat boy dress up and nothing more. This might be step one in operation "Slander Scalia's memory".
I don’t like secret societies in general.
It gives a chance for groups to form within groups as evidently happened within Opus Dei, a secret Catholic organization. A famous spy was a member.

A look inside the hidden world of Opus Dei.
Some know it as the diabolical secret organization of monk-assassins depicted in the The Da Vinci Code. Others recall it in vague connection with Robert Hanssen, the FBI agent who spied for Russia. Those inside the beltway may be familiar with the role it played in the conversion to Catholicism of Sen. Sam Brownback, Robert Bork, and syndicated columnist Robert Novak—though apparently none of them numbers himself among the roughly 3,000 members the group claims to have in the United States. (Nor, despite rumors, do Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, former FBI director Louis Freeh, or Sen. Rick Santorum.) ...
Suspicions about the group’s allegedly eccentric character were confirmed for some by the spy scandal surrounding Robert Hanssen, which included a bizarre, voyeuristic, sexual dimension as well. Hanssen and his wife were “supernumerary” members of Opus Dei. Supernumeraries comprise the bulk of Opus Dei’s membership (affiliation is also available as an “associate” or “cooperator”). Most supernumeraries are married, and their spiritual practice mirrors that of celibate numeraries. Hanssen actually confessed his spying to an Opus Dei priest. In a good example of why Opus Dei’s myopic spirituality is worrisome, the priest told Hanssen to stop spying and to give his blood money to charity, but not to turn himself in. His family—at one level Opus Dei is all about (large) family values—came first.
To the left of Nixon I think is Gen. Omar Bradley, not sure. Next to him is Gov. Nelson Rockefeller. That nose, jaw and hair are definitely Rocky.
Who was the speaker standing next to Reagan?
Guessing the photo is from around 1958.
“I think this ‘society’ is very likely just a really old hunting club that likes to play frat boy dress up and nothing more.”
Agreed. Like the Allepos or whoever that wear Fezs.
The guy was getting older and died. As most of us unfortunately know first hand, that happens.
“....secretive society of elite hunters....”
For some reason, the hunting party scene from “The Deer Hunter” comes to mind.... dunno know....
BTTT
Many of the FF were Mason. BTW so was Davy Crockett and Mexican General Santa Ana.
Definitely in my top 5...
Yep. A devastating piece of cinema.
I’ve heard of them. What I heard was positive though. That they were conservative.
I get your POV on such groups though. I don’t much secrecy either, not knowing.
In spite of all the incredible roles he’s played over the years, Christopher Walken wil always be “Nick” in my mind.
The Russian Roulette scenes were brutal beyond words.
Agreed. “Nicky”.
Yep, especially the one at the end.
I’ve heard of them. What I heard was positive though. That they were conservative.”
I always heard positive too until Hanssen’s story came out.

I find the rituals disgusting. Probably most think it is just a lark, but why do we need this type of pagan ritual for the elites.
Ping.
Riiiiiight. Washington having belonged to a number of societies, more acceptable to the leaders of the time— about which I have NO problem either. Did you, for instance, know that Washington was the largest distiller of spirits (corn and grain alcohol) in the country, at the same time as the Whiskey Rebellion was put down by the Continental Army (Washington at the head) over.... preferential taxation extended to large producers, higher rates for the yeoman farmers, who also did not produce... wine. So— whose elite was correct in regard to the enforced taxation— to repay France? It’s always been about freedom. And ours is the best— but just saying.
There are current members of Congress who belong to foreign organizations, well identified lobbying groups who meet with them... in secret. Like cutouts for the House of Saud— do you think McCain takes their direction and money?— You bet. So does Harry Reid. Nice club, and we ain’t in it.
Used to be the FBI looked into these things. But not since Teddy went to Moscow to tell the Soviets to ignore Ronald Reagan, which was a criminal act— he should have gone to federal prison. But... not the swimmer murderer rapist son of Cutty Sark.
A private hunting society is hardly the same thing. Justice Scalia is a hunter— he wasn’t and wouldn’t be a member if asked, of St. Hubertus, but well within his personal rights to accept and invitation to a hunting preserve. Gosh, wonder if Scalia was an active member of Knights of Columbus! We are not a European monarchy, last I checked. If we could just manage everybody things would be just— perfect. Socialism plus.
Alex Jones— known disinformation agent for the See Eye Aaaaa.
The Manhattan Project was conceived at the B Grove.
I have been in the cabin where the meetings were held.
Many many years later of course.
