Ted Cruz Worry: Big South Carolina Loss Equals Bad Super Tuesday
CNN ^ | February 19

Posted on 02/19/2016 5:23:50 PM PST by Helicondelta

People close to Cruz privately fear that a big loss in South Carolina to Donald Trump could signal more defeats to come in the so-called SEC states that are the lynchpin of Cruz's strategy

'If Trump gets 38 or 40 -- and Cruz is second with 22 or something like that -- it's going to be very ominous,' a pro-Cruz fundraiser

Why would a committed democrat forfeit a vote for The Beast or Bernie just to help Trump?

A LOT of Democrats like Trump, who not so long ago was one, if I understand the situation properly.

I understand he is drawing something like 25% of the Black vote, and there is great enthusiasm for him among some members of the Black community. He's also doing well with Hispanics.

Both groups generally vote overwhelmingly Democrat.

Yeah the issue is you have liberal and moderate independents (and even democrats) voting for Trump. Closed primary would be a lot easier to get a good conservative as the nominee.

Exactly. I don't understand why anyone has an open primary. It's just wrong.

Put looking into the polls it looks like Rubio is the tissue.

I’m not happy about what I’m seeing as I look into the poll #s. I think Rubio may squeak a victory out or a strong 2nd place. A victory for Rubio would actually be better for Cruz than a strong 2nd place showing. Because victory would cut Trump off at the knees and make him focus on Rubio. Plus it would make him a 2 time loser.

The GOPe does it so they can elect people like Jeb. But it backfired this time with a more liberal candidate in the mix.

From a poster at Conservative Treehouse:

I live in Dallas Texas, and Former President Bush lives not for away, and neither is the Bush Presidential Library at SMU…..Pete Session’s kids went to school with mine. I know the Texas political crowd, and I know fully how Ted Cruz got where he is and why, and how Karl Rove has dominated the neocon process of selling out our nation and promoting the crooked and greedy Bush Family in our nation’s politics. So when I say that Ted Cruz is 100 % a phony lying POS, perhaps you will give credibility so someone who knows far beyond his bloviating self deceit and campaign rhetoric. I know his history while at two different law firms in Texas and the disgust the other lawyers in those practices hold today even for Ted.

If you vote for Ted Cruz, it is only because you have allowed yourself to be conned and led down a path of lies and promises that Ted is incapable to fulfilling. He is not a loyal American, his knowledge of the Constitution is merely for his debate and lawyering career and ego satisfaction….he was a lousy University Lecturer at the University of Texas as well.

For all of us, take a deep breath and trust another citizen who is not trying to sell any thing other than to post a severe warning against a fraudulent con that will further put our nation at risk. Do not give your sacred US vote to this man.

Liars never prosper

Can't be true, Trump is a very rich man and he has certainly prospered.

No “TED CRUZ” did not. A congressman in Iowa took the tweet and ran with it. It did say he was going back to Home and not going to NH or SC. Therefore, it was “safe” to assume what that meant. Just as if Cruz said he was not going to Nevada after SC and instead returning to Texas.

Without details this is just Trump smearing again.

Why do the other lawyers dislike him? Did he beat them in court too many times?

No “TED CRUZ” did not. A congressman in Iowa took the tweet and ran with it.

The Cruz team within minutes was spreading this story to their campaign precincts, specifically mentioning the "big announcement", which was a total fabrication. CNN didn't even imply any announcement. About an hour later, King was just part of pushing a narrative Team Cruz had already started.

I can do that too.

Trust me I know Donald Trump. I’ve made deals with him on his team and on the other side. And every time I was able to rollover him by having a few extra beautiful women along for the “ride”. He is easily won over if he thinks he’s gong to personally gain something at other people’s expense. Don’t just trust me on this, you could ask the thousands of people that also did deals with Trump and beat him. Yes he’s rich, but that’s because he’s easily bought off. There’s a reason his casino’s went bankrupt and he was at the middle of it.

I call it for trump and I doubt it will be very close

It may very well go for Trump, but I have been watching Cruz for a long while, and he has been building about the best ground game I have ever seen in my life.

That's why I'm predicting a surprise upset. What's the fun in predicting the probable outcome?

His ego is bigger than Trump’s. Trump has accomplished a lot so he has a right to a large ego. Cruz, not so much.

Arguing and winning cases in front of the Supreme Court..that’s nothing. I do that everyday and so does nearly every American.

But running a big business and going bankrupt. Now that isn’t something we see very much of in America.

Why do people keep arguing that being the “real conservative” is going to win a nomination? Not one person has ever won the the nomination let alone the presidency with a campaign that was simply “I’m the real conservative” Not even Ronald Reagan himself, easily the most ideological conservative to win the White House in most loving people’s lifetime never ran on nothing more than “I’m the real conservative”

This tactic has never won, Cruz is chasing a failed strategy. You can be the most conservative, but if that’s all you argument is to voters and nothing more you lose, yes even in the primary.

Do people actually decide who to vote for based on someone knocking on their door and asking for the vote? If that’s the case they can be swayed pretty easily.

Well here’s the problem with the ground game theory. If you don’t start winning it does not matter. Cruz is going to lose SC and NV so then what?

Agreed. I’d prefer an outright Rubio win to any kind of Trump win. This is rapidly becoming all about delegates.
