Draft-dodger Donald Trump once said that the danger he faced from getting sexually transmitted diseases was his own âpersonal Vietnam.â In a 1997 interview with shock jock Howard Stern, Trump talked about how he had been âluckyâ not to have contracted diseases when he was sleeping around. âIâve been so lucky in terms of that whole world. It is a dangerous world out there. Itâs scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era,â Trump said in a video that resurfaced Tuesday on Buzzfeed, âIt is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.â
Whether the war was a justified one or not, comparing himself avoiding getting STD because of numerous sexual conquests to fighting in Vietnam is insulting to the soldiers that actually went to Vietnam.
Since Clinton did worse things during the Vietnam War, we shouldn’t hold Trump accountable for his draft dodging and tin ear with Howard Stern? Yeah, that’s the ticket, the Donald dodged the clap for America at great self sacrifice.
Ping
We don’t need no President whose history is “sleeping around.” starting with Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and William J. Clinton, of the same ilk. Loved by liberals, hated by God-fearing conservatives.
So which one of the candidates have served in the military ???
USA TODAY Jan. 1993
Why didn’t Ted, Marco, Jeb, Kasich, Santorum, Huck, any of them, join the military?
Why didn’t any Bush kids join the military?
Nope. The comment that hopping from fox hole to fox hole was anything like being in a foxhole is disrespectful of everyone who was in country.
Trump had deferments. That means he was not a draft dodger. Deferments were legal designations from the government that deferred the date of eligibility or the draft status of an otherwise eligible citizen.
I joined in 1970 and lived through the Vietnam Era. I lost a same age uncle in that war. I know that our government early on stopped trying to win, tied their troop’s hands with unrealistic objectives and ROEs.
It caused a huge rejection of the moral authority of the government even to be waging that war. They got tens of thousands killed on an adventure that they weren’t even trying to win. Our troops were the cannon fodder of politicians.
I have no hard feelings toward anyone who side-stepped that war any way they could find. The draft dodgers who fled the US are not in my sights at all. Nor are those who had deferments or who joined the national guard or reserve, or who went active duty so they could pick their own job speciality and location of assignment.
The government did NOT deserve to be supported at that time with their damn war. The same as Iraq/Afghan. Our leaders have prosecuted our troops for attacking the enemy, they have tied their hands so they can’t even defend themselves except under the most dangerous circumstances, they have no strategy to win, and they are distant and uninvolved.
But our troops are honorable.
The have been led by politicians who are charlatans, crooks, and liars.
Very disgusting for those of us who either are veterans or who have relatives that are veterans.
While Cruz was wearing his canadian mountie uniform in high school while memorizing the constitution, Trump was taking the world by the balls and living his life to its fullest extent. Like a rock star.
The fact that he has done all of the things he has done and come through life with no chemical addictions and with friends and family that respect him like nobody I have ever seen, says a lot about Trump.
sheesh!
You guys are climbing out of the woodwork!
Okay...but be pissed about that. Don’t use an article titled “Draft-Dodger Trump.....” to do it.
trump was not a draft dodger
he used the law to his advantage
he did not run away to Canada
This got pulled last night. I guess it’s approved now?
The draft is unconstitutional, and as such should be resisted by ALL.
It’s used to fight unpopular wars that “we the People” do not believe in
There’s nothing ‘fake’ about it. Nothing at all. You can mention Clinton and extra-marital proclivities of others in DC all you wish. Perhaps it doesn’t matter to you but it does to me and to many others here on FR. Even if many in DC do the same, it doesn’t make it right and I choose not to align myself with such by voting for them. Also, there IS right and there is wrong and pointing out such is not “self-righteous”. These candidates are asking us to place them in the highest office, yet to point out what they have said and done means I’m on the cross? Non-sense.
All wars are a disaster. The same argument against going to Vietnam could have been made (and was by some) during Iraq War.
1957. Trump as a grade school kid was disciplined for drawing a moustache on the photo of the school principal. This makes him ineligible for POTUS
Only Rick Perry, and he is a candidate no longer.
