Trump Was Half-Crazed, But Does Anyone Care?
National Review ^ | February 14, 2016 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 02/14/2016 3:52:35 AM PST by reaganaut1

I feel like we’re back in the pre-Iowa period when no one could figure out whether Donald Trump skipping the Iowa debate would hurt him–by the normal rules, of course it would hurt him; by the Trump rules, it wouldn’t make a difference and maybe even help (by demonstrating strength).

By the normal rules, Trump embracing a blood libel about George W. Bush (he knew there were no WMD in Iraq), saying Planned Parenthood does great things, and often swinging wildly and angrily would hurt him a week out from a primary in Bush-friendly, hawkish, socially conservative South Carolina.

But we’ll see. Certainly Trump’s behavior reinforces the idea that he’s disruptor and not just another politician, and Republican voters might not mind so much that one of the candidates is outspokenly anti-Iraq war (even if he takes it too far). Trump continues to be able to interrupt everyone else with impunity and act the Big Man on stage, with no one really able or willing to assert themselves against him.

Jeb is trying the hardest. He continues to improve–he seems a bit more relaxed and authoritative every debate– and did better against Trump than ever before. But some of his strongest moments were defending his family and although that is honorable, I’m not sure how much that gets him. He has still not figured out how to clearly best Trump, even when he has the better of the argument.

Rubio was very good. A little sharper, a little more conversational. He probably got in more telling jabs against Trump in the Iraq debate than Bush did (although I doubt anyone cares much that Bush was enforcing U.N. resolutions).

Bin Laden already had attacked and killed scores of Americans in the USS Cole bombing , the CIA told Bush they had credible info that he was about to attack Usa there was no excuse for Bush to not take it seriously

Lowery National Review insanity alert.

Warning! Protect Yeb at all costs!

Fact is, in ANY exchange with Yeb over Iraq, Trump wins because he is where 60% of the American public is.

It's time for real leadership and common sense.

I see where the woman in the picture meets Trump's primary qualifications in a woman. But what does "real leadership and common sense" have to do with him?

Good grief....obviously you don’t recognize Andrea Tantaros and her solid conservative AND anti-Establishment positions.

Your comment is typical of CanuckTed’s brigade...

He qualified his “support” of Planned Parenthood by explicitly excluding support of its abortions.

Planned parent does 300k abortions the sell baby part. Trying to parse their activities to call any of why these mass murderers ‘great’ is despicable.

I am rethinking my preference for a Trump-Cruz ticket.

There is no chance that will happen now ...

New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik said on 9/11 that he couldn’t believe that someone would fly an airplane into a building to commit terror.
Any intelligence agency would have considered that as a possibility.

The Bush family has destroyed the Conservative brand and the GOP. They support Big Government in the name of compassion. It takes pure gall for another Bush to run for President.

This is crucial. I cannot stress enough, how important this is. We must not let Obama succeed at this. He is going to nominate an appointee on Tuesday, this is guaranteed. He’s going to do it, and we must be prepared to stop him.

The key will be showing that the recess the Senate is on now is not an “extended” recess. This is the precedent that, in the past, has been used to support recess appointments. One week is not an “extended” recess. Obama is going to claim that it is, this is guaranteed. We must not let him succeed.

We must harass the Senate with phone calls and/or e-mails come Monday, February 22. At that time, Obama will have already nominated an appointee, and will be claiming it’s due to an “extended” recess.

If I’m wrong about this, then I’m wrong, we will find out Tuesday Feb 16. But I don’t think I am wrong. He is going to nominate someone then, and claim the precedent of “extended recess” in trying to keep his nominee. Then he will try to bully the Senate as he always has, to keep his nominee. We must stop this.

We must stop him, by stopping our own infighting (Cruz/Trump wars), at least temporarily. This is far too important. This will have decades lasting implications. We must focus on stopping Obama, use the energy we’ve been using supporting “our” candidate stopping Obama now. Or else the election itself will be meaningless, whomever the nominee is. We thought we could wait until after the election, at least, to worry about SC nominees. We were wrong. It’s time to wake up to this reality and adapt to the situation.

Stop the infighting! Stop Obama!

Can you quote all the words Trump said about PP last night?

He did not deny it last night. And he thinks Planned Parenthood does wonderful things. Hey, it hurts me to have to abandon Trump after all this time. In my heart I always knew he was a liberal, but, he gives the Establishment grief so I hung with him hoping against hope. But, after last night, I can no longer abide his liberalism or his craziness. As for Cruz, he is a lying, sleazy, scumbag hypocrite. NEITHER WILL WIN SC. I’m gonna have to go for Carson and hope for the best. It’s Time you quit being in denial odawg.

Trump’s performance at the GOPe boo-fest got off to a rough start, but he recovered, and all the other guys suck way worse. I’m still voting for Trump in the primary, I’ll vote for Ted in the general if he gets the nomination, and hopefully it’s one of those two or I’ll really have to think long and hard about what to do.

Trump sounds like a left-wing Democrat on Planned Parenthood and George W. Bush's "lies" about Iraq. He is no conservative, and he is a boor.

And yet he was the only one to come out with some good potential replacements for Scalia while the others only told us how bad the other side's choices would be - Trump gets my money (since I relegated Cruz to my second choice) and my vote - despite the uninformed/non-thinking attacks becuase some keyword hit a primitive knee-jerk part of some "brains".

When confronted about the fact that he will continue funding PP, he said: “They do do some wonderful things regarding women’s health” BULLSHIT! They kill babies. Look, it was hard for me to admit to myself, after all this time, Trump is a liberal and he’s borderline nuts. I’m done. I gotta go with Carson now. No place else to go.

Many independents who don't like GWB and his war will turn out for Trump

South Carolina has an odd setup where the Republican primary is a week earlier than the Democrats. A significant part of the population and probably s large majority of younger voters are mad as *ell but aren't sure where to channel that anger, Sanders or Trump. Why those two? Folks know the situation is desperate, and they want someone who can think outside the box. I'm wondering if the staggered primaries don't help Trump and hurt Sanders.

I'm also wondering if, in spite of a little give and take between the two, Trump's landing so many punches on Cruz as a liar didn't give Rubio space to recover, which he did. I don't think Trump does much that doesn't have an intended consequence.

hmmmm......
