[I]n a campaign that has seemingly tested every political rule, Mr. Trumpâs opponents hope his latest provocation will be too much for well-mannered voters in this heavily evangelical Christian state to bear: his use of a pungently vulgar word this week to describe one of his rivals, Senator Ted Cruz.
Mr. Trumpâs raunchy language has become unsurprising at his rallies. And the slur against Mr. Cruz was largely overshadowed by the coverage of the next dayâs New Hampshire primary.
But in voicing the crude term, Mr. Trump has further polarized a Republican Party already deeply divided about his candidacy, particularly across class lines.
His backers, who polls indicate include many without a college degree, see his willingness to speak coarsely as yet another refreshing example of his resistance to political correctness.
His critics, many of them more affluent, view his language as a particularly vivid sign that he lacks basic decency and is ill suited to the nationâs highest office.
The differing reactions are already playing out on the campaign trail.
Rebecca Sardella, who attended a rally for Senator Marco Rubio this week in Myrtle Beach, said she was offended by Mr. Trumpâs language.
âThe way he speaks â that doesnât sound like somebody who really believes in God that much,â said Ms. Sardella, who works for a nondenominational church in North Myrtle Beach. âYou want your children to look up at the president of the United States.â
But at a rally Thursday in an arena in Baton Rouge, La., Mr. Trumpâs supporters treated his profane remark about Mr. Cruz like the hit song of a touring rock band, pleading with him to let it rip again.
âTheyâre all saying, âDo it! Do it!â â he told a clamorous crowd of nearly 10,000, acknowledging their chants.

And that/s exactly what people don/t get from Cruz or his people. "I don't like Cruz but I don/t know why," is a frequent FR post.
Cruz/s incessant overbearing campaign seems to be aching to prove something to himself. Maybe its a Canadian-latino/s lack of self-esteem. Who knows? But the presidency is definitely not the place to go find your human potential.
OTOH, Donald/s soaring acclamation.... WE Will Make America Great Again......speaks to the character of the candidate and where his loyalties lie.
He is definitely a kind of clown but that is his way of dominating the media which was needed to build his brand.
The best way to understand the real Trump is to evaluate his buildings. Though he is boisterous, his buildings and properties and restaurants are 5 star.
You do realize that many of his supporters are blue-collar and middle-class heartland types, people just like me and presumably you.
Your post is the very definition of elitism.
Trump is a con artist, and it is working The fact that people buy his con speaks more about the people. America is over.
I remember watching that TV series about the Mafia and every episode they talked about the character Big Pussy.
It was on TV so Pussy is no big deal
Of course Cruz is the Cowardly Pussy, wonât endorse waterboarding
But I kind of chuckle whenever Donald uses a profanity.
Its like an inside joke...he/s letting us uptight
Christians in on guy-talk....raunchy locker-room talk.
Women, especially, get to feel like one of the boys....one of the Trump guys laughing it up in Trump Tower.

What the heck are you talking about? If you going to post here please try to post a coherent thought, tia.
Big Pussy was a character on the Sopranos that got wacked for being squeezed by the FBI
the lesson of Big Pussy is or will be learned by Hillary as some secretary or assistant below Huma or Cheryl gets squeezed by the FBI and spills all the beans
I suspect that process is underway as we post
"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." John Adams

This is simply good marketing by a master showman! Other than “The Trump Wall”, the question is HOW? The specifics are mostly founded on platitudes (e.g. “we’ll have a great healthcare system that covers everyone”)...
Is a man with a girl-like inclination to rant and slander his political enemies with vulgarities on Twitter setting an example that makes Americans proud of their country again?
Is a President who spins on a dime between Liberal and Conservative policy intentions based upon his decision to enter the ultimate reality show, running for POTUS, going to engender the trust and faith of the American people?
Hopefully, we will not find out!
There is another choice, another vessel for all the anger and rage over a governmental system that needs overhaul and re-direction...
CRUZ
You simply can't slander a bunch of people who do this:
"But at a rally Thursday in an arena in Baton Rouge, La., Mr. Trump's supporters treated his profane remark about Mr. Cruz like the hit song of a touring rock band, pleading with him to let it rip again.
They're all saying, “Do it! Do it!” he told a clamorous crowd of nearly 10,000, acknowledging their chants."
They are like a bunch of bloodthirsty savages.
I don’t think that’s soap in your mouth.
LOL. You'd fit right in a cocktail party attended by staffers from the New Yorker.
I disagree, if Trump wins and wins big he will have a mandidate from the people to advance his agenda and his agenda will advance. But for the sake of argument lets say you are correct.
Trump does not need Congresssional approval to enforce existing immigration law. As President he has all the authority he needs to deport illegals. The wall has already been approved by Congress so if Trump can figured out a way to fund it he can build it without Congress. As President he can halt immigration to the USA by Muslims without Congress. He can send refugees home without Congress. And the can renegotiate trade deals without Congress. So much of Trumps agenda does not rely on Congressional approval.
But as I said if Trump wins large (and he will) then Congress will go along with his agenda and pass his legislation he is the consummate deal maker, the master of negotiating to get his way remember?
Oh please.....WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN were the first words out of Trump/s mouth when he declared for president.
Nobody had a clue as to how that would resonate.
Ted Cruz/s campaign slogans were also designed to resonate....too bad for Ted they didn/t.
I’m sorry if short, concise and succinct statements escape you. I could elaborate through paragraphs to share a point. However I think this expresses it precisely.
Excellent point on immigration. All he has to do is enforce existing law. Nothing radical about that.
Bless your little heart!
Since they are the two leading candidates, both messages are resonating!
Time will tell if the ultimate reality show guy makes it in the end?
But, I’m glad you are enjoying the show!
