Speaker Paul Ryan and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy met privately with Rep. Jason Chaffetz Wednesday evening to reiterate that he cannot proceed with any investigation that involves Hillary Clinton, according to multiple sources familiar with the meeting.
The impetus for the gathering was a POLITICO story where Chaffetz, the chairman, of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, was quoted as saying that a pending probe into government record keeping practices would not be "specifically trying to target the secretary, but when she creates her own private email system, she's ensnarled herself.â Presented with the quote before publication, House Republican leaders were taken aback, saying they told Chaffetz to steer clear of Clinton in his broader probe of the use of personal email addresses to conduct government business.
House Republican leadership is moving cautiously when it comes to Clinton. Ryan and McCarthy have been clear about their preference that the FBI handle anything Clinton related. But Chaffetz's comments led to confusion in Republican leadership.

WTF?
Uniparty protecting its members.

Don’t mess with Hil, no no no NO!
Don’t mess with Hil,
Leave my Hilly alone.
She still owes on my loan!
And Paulie you want conservatives to sit tight and not revolt?
Smells bad. Ryan needs to be primaries out of there.
Agreed-THEY PROTECT THEIR OWN!
The BIG Government hammer is coming down on those who make waves. Politicians suck. Government is just one big uniparty out to stick it to the people. Not what the Founding Fathers intended. Clinton violated the laws. Lots of them.
“Ryan and McCarthy have been clear about their preference that the FBI handle anything Clinton related.”
I agree. Otherwise, Hillary will just have more ammo for her absurd claim that she is being persecuted by a vast, right-wing conspiracy.
The headline gave me a real negative visceral reaction. However, this may be for the best.
She’s already claiming this is “a vast right wing conspiracy”, and it really has nothing to do with them at this point.
As long as the FBI will do the dirty work, let them lower the boom. Hopefully, Comey will do the right thing and recommend prosecution. That would be the best thing that could happen, and the GOP would be completely free of any perceived influence.
If he doesn’t make the recommendation, they could always resurrect it later.
We should never give a pass to mafia type of criminals.
Uniparty bump for later.....
Yeah, a vast right-wing conspiracy that includes an ODNI Inspector General appointed by Obama...
Who said anything about a pass?
Hopefully, the FBI will do exactly what we want to have done to her.
The fix is in, and Paul Ryan is leading the way.
Has to get through four levels of Democrat controlled offices to get that done.
Real fighters we’ve got in there. And they wonder why Trump is popular.
PLEASE VOTE TRUMP!
