Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

So you think the Cruz campaign made up the story about Carson going home after Iowa, and fed it to CNN and Fox, just so they could tell people at the caucuses about it? Wow, if the Cruz campaign is that good, just think what they could do to our enemies!!!
Look, Carson made a mistake making a statement like that right before the vote in a contest where he was not expected to do well. That is on him. CNN made a mistake in how they reported the comment by Carson. That was their mistake. The Cruz campaign made the mistake of jumping on the story without confirming it and running with it. So far, the only ones to acknowledge their mistake and apologize are the Cruz campaign. You certainly would never see Trump doing so. He has never apologized for all of the lies and insults coming from him so far, so why would he apologize for anything else?
You fell into the same “mistake” Cruz’s people fell into: you beleived CNN.
This is what they said in this article:
“CNN reported that the retired neurosurgeon planned to go home to Florida after the Iowa caucuses, RATHER THAN FLYING STRAIGHT TO NEW HAMPSHIRE OR SOUTH CAROLINA (emphasis mine), where the next primary contests are held. His aides have emphasized that he is not suspending his campaign — rather, just briefly going home to “get a fresh set of clothes.”
At http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3391860/posts?page=85#85 you can see some CNN tweets. One mentioned that Carson would not be going DIRECTLY to NH or SC but would go to FL, but the other 2 said he was not going to NH or SC, period. And the initial tweet that Steve King reacted to was this:
“Chris Moody (@moody), 4:43 PM CST
Carson won’t go to NH/SC, but instead will head home to Florida for some R&R. He’ll be in DC Thursday for the National Prayer Breakfast”
Sure seems like the only activity on-line for next week was going to be the prayer breakfast.
So CNN’s page is STILL propagating a lie, in the interest of making Cruz look bad.
And Freepers make the same mistake: trusting what CNN says without first fact-checking it.
Cruz or lose! He is honest about making a mistake. Not so much any of the others
Ah but was it really a mistake?-)
That is probably the best explanation of exactly what happened that I have seen on FR
That is key to the intent.
Cruz avoided direct confirmation with the Carson campaign, on the of CNN report of Cruz leaving the state, not the campaign.
Cool thing about this is that voters are now quite on to the Christian Cruz Campaign dirty tricks operation, between the mailer and this.
It goes over here with the Cruznadians and the Evangelicals in Iowa, but it won’t go over in New Hampshire.
Cruz seems to practice a Christian form of Taqiyya, that if you lie in the cause of Jesus, its Okey Dokey,
Cruz. Hillary. No difference. (At least if Cruz gets the nomination I won’t need to waste time going to my polling place. There’s that.)
Crooze didn’t know he did it until he saw it on the TV noos
Right. Thieves den
Well, you know what they say about assuming.
Rubio and the GOP(in past years) have sent out similar letters. Where was the press on those?
I concur.
Absurd. Other Polls show Cruz losing by double digits to Sanders.
Unfortunately, a lot of people here seem to think that ethics only apply when the infraction changes the outcome.
And the other popular excuse is that since other people have gotten away with something, it’s OK to do the same thing yourself. That’s what kids instinctively do when they get caught.
‘Cruz seems to practice a Christian form of Taqiyya, that if you lie in the cause of Jesus, its Okey Dokey’
He doesn’t lie in the cause of Jesus. He lies in the cause of Cruz.
“Cruz seems to practice a Christian form of Taqiyya, that if you lie in the cause of Jesus, its Okey Dokey,”
Great analogy.
And one of his pals during his student days who drove up to Canada with him on a trip reported that when going through Canadian border checkpoints, Cruz identified as a dual national. It’s a pity he has this snafu, but it is there and undeniable, and the Dems will come out full force on it if he wins the nomination. Like others, I’m voting for the Republican who can WIN. Trump or Cruz.
“Iâm surprised he didnât blame the voters and the media like Trump has done.”

Yes, Donald thinks he lost IA because of those Iowa voters! What had DJT previously called them...”stupid”?
Now, Donald just tweeted that the Ted Cruz IA victory speech last night was “...too long, rambling, and overly flamboyant...his Howard Dean moment!”...
I would suggest to his doctor that he write DJT a script for thorazine ASAP!
Can you post the apology==I really didn’t see one in the article posted.
