With just over a week until the first 2016 election contest, Donald Trump takes the lead in Iowa -- and maintains his big advantage in New Hampshire.

That’s according to the latest round of Fox News state polls on the Republican presidential nomination contest.

Trump bests Ted Cruz in Iowa and now receives 34 percent support among Republican caucus-goers. Cruz is second with 23 percent -- down a touch from 27 percent. Marco Rubio comes in third with 12 percent, down from 15 percent. No others garner double-digit support.

Ah, let them whine. Cruz is circling the drain and it makes some butthurt. They’re lashing out and calling good FReepers fake conservatives, liberals, idiots, etc.

Better to ignore their stomping on the floor tantrum.

Though it is ugly at times, nobody’s comments on this forum influences polls. The candidates do it all by themselves...for better or worse.

Cruz was never vetted early on. He rode up behind Trump’s wings and Trump never touched him until it was late in the game.

He is getting vetting now, and will get vetted more by the time of the Caucus.

It helps out the non conservatives — including the poseurs & the pied-piper.

Keep making your purist tent smaller pal. That should help Ted. Probably advice you received from the stalwart conservative Beck that we are anxiously awaiting to be Ted's veep.

“Another thing is that Cruz has been marketed as above perfect.

People on our side need to cut that out.

Nobody is perfect and the higher on the pedestal the candidate sits, the farther the fall.”

Excellent point. For instance, when you boast of a perfect memory then have to admit to “forgetting” financial filings and health insurance, it looks real bad.

Absolutely. Ask most of his supporters and frankly they really wont know much about him past 2014, outside of sentimental stuff like he was in debate club, or that he “memorized the constitution at 13”. He’s ambitious, but just too green for this type of fight.

“He rode up behind Trump’s wings and Trump never touched him until it was late in the game.”

This is indisputable. A carelessly risky move that was based on the media narrative that Trump would “implode” or is an idiot. That somehow you just let him rip through the competition, and then Cruz (possessing some sort of incredible powers) would merely flick Trump out of the race with a wave of his hand.

Cruz (likely with the help of too many Yes Men and sycophants) greatly overestimated his abilities and got wrapped up in some goofy idea that it was his divine right to be the nominee, and that providence would clear the way for him to assume what they think was rightfully his.

“Another thing is that Cruz has been marketed as above perfect.”

Right again. Some of the gushing platitudes are cringe-worthy, and greatly inflated his head to the point where when the real fight started, he balked hard. That’s why you have National Review, and Glenn Beck plus all of these blogs, rushing in to circle the wagons. Cruz cant withstand a real hardcore election on his own.

“Nobody is perfect and the higher on the pedestal the candidate sits, the farther the fall.”

The problem is that I dont think Cruz honestly expected to have to put in much of a fight.

The only question is when will Cruz withdraw.

Don't know if it's in him to withdraw gracefully. The ego is strong in that one. He's the smartest man in the room. He was the bestest debater evah u know.

The question remains: what happens when this becomes a three or four person race? It will sort out very quickly. Trump has a solid plurality with about third of the vote in current polling. His biggest advantage is simply that the media is covering him 24/7 and the rest of the field has disappeared. When the field shrinks, a serious challenger will emerge.

Cruz is at 23% now. Interestingly, Santorum got 24% in 2012. Looks like those are the folks Cruz has wrapped up this time around. He won’t be going any higher, IMO.

One could make the case that Cruz’s numbers went down, and they could point out that among other things he had brought out Glen Beck.

Even Beck’s supporters think he’s a bit loopy.
