National Review, the conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley, will publish a special issue on Friday opposing Donald Trump's bid for the presidency, according to a source with knowledge of the issue's contents.
The issue will feature a blistering editorial that labels Trump a threat to conservatism, as well as essays by 22 prominent conservative thinkers from various ideological factions, in opposition to Trump's candidacy, the source said.
"Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself," the editorial states.
The issue, first reported by Jonathan Martin of The New York Times, comes as conservative pundits and GOP leaders debate which of the two leading Republican candidates -- Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- poses the greater threat to the party.
Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, spent weeks reaching out to fellow conservatives, ranging from The Weekly Standard's William Kristol to RedState's Erick Erickson, to commission essays for the issue.

Buckley was pretty disillusioned politically in his later years. The magazine might not be so different if he were still around today. His son wouldn't have dared endorse Obama, though, if WFB were still alive.
Yeah, didnât realize it was fake and am being flamed.. But its all ok. :-)
Cruz is my Senator, and I like him, but like Trump better. If I had seen a tweet that said it was from Cruz stating that he was for Obama, I wouldn’t believe it. I would do research.
I think you need to go watch a few Trump rallies, and read the fun comments on the rally threads. Trust me, the Cruz side is bitter and depressing, sometimes nasty. Find out what Trump is saying before falling for the lies.
It’s a fake that’s already been debunked. Glenn Beck is the one who originally published the fake and had to apologize a day later.
You’re the one who’s late to the party....posting fake Glenn Beck type carp.
Did you ask the mods to have it pulled, to save you further embarrassment?
I just saw your post about not knowing it was a fake, so I want to apologize too for insinuating that you were knowingly posting a lie instead simply not knowing it was a fake.
Trump a threat to conservatism.
Has this magazine ever printed that all those rinos like McCain and Romney and Boner and Ryan are a threat to conservatism? The republican party left conservatism long ago. If the people at this magazine can’t see that then they’re a bunch of idiots.
Yeah I did. The reason I didn’t know it was fake is cuz I avoid threads with Glen Beck’s name in the title....lol
You should ask the mods to delete it. If you didn’t know it was fake, that’s what you’d do.
I did.
The scum bags from “conservative incorporated” speak through NR which is an establishment organ same as the WSJ & sames as the Weakly Standard....ought to tell you who they fear.
Didn’t Dole endorse 41 over Reagan?
All good. :-)
Mark Steyn yesterday I think, pointed out that the mere word ‘bipartisanship’ MEANS Uniparty. And the more bipartisanship you’ve got, the more Uniparty you’ve got. It’s bad. Really bad. But they say it like it’s good.
Fellow 'conservatives'....LOLOL.
Sick puppies....going after the HISTORIC GOP FRONTRUNNER who has brought in the exact voters that the GOPe has been crying about getting in to their 'big tent' (ha!), for years. Blacks, hispanics, women, blue collar workers (wait....they don't give a flip about the blue collar workers, never mind that one).
Yet, many folks, here have been crying that Trump is establishment. Wrong, again.
Do you have any idea how much damage you are doing to your candidate posting stuff like that.
This has been proven to be a fake. Glenn Beck apologized to Trump over it.
Now, you continue to post it on the forum.
Why?
You’re not going to get respect from one person for doing this, and if someone tells you you will, they are playing you.
Quit being used by this.
You should tell the mods to remove your post. They’re probably busy but it would be a nice thing to do.
Don’t worry. We all make mistakes. Especially the extra rude nasties who are taking you to task over you error.
I’m sure none of them have ever passed on a hoax. /s
You’re late to the party. lol Didn’t realize it was fake when I posted, but about 20 freepers or more have let me know. Great people, freepers. Anyway, I have asked the mods to remove but I think they are sleeping on the job today. :-(
I recognize that Mr. Trump can bluster at times. The best of poker players do. It keeps the competition guessing and gives him leverage. Things he has learned by being a very successful businessman.
To the second part,I understand your concern. It's who he hangs with and gets photos taken. However, when it comes to putting people in positions of authority he has established a fine track record of outstanding choices. I don't think after many decades of this pattern that he will or even can haphazardly select idiots. So that is not a concern I share about Mr. Trump.
