"As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist, worked in the Reagan White House, and served as the principal deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bush's Justice Department.
As a jurist, Judge Roberts' approach will be that of his entire career: carefully, faithfully applying the Constitution and legal precedent.
He is a mainstream judge, respected across the ideological spectrum. Thus, he's earned praise from liberal icons such as Harvard Law Professor Larry Tribe, and Chicago Law Professor Cass Sunstein, as well as from Clinton Solicitors General Walter Dellinger and Seth Waxman, and Carter and Clinton Counsel Lloyd Cutler, the latter two of whom both described Roberts as a man of "unquestioned integrity and fair-mindedness."
As Professor Tribe observed Tuesday night, "It is clear that in the absence of some serious objection that is not now visible . . . he is very likely to be confirmed.â
The Senate should confirm him swiftly."

If Trump nominated Roberts and he ruled like that, what would you say?
Don’t even reply to me if you like.
I think you know what the answer would be.
That should be your answer with Ted too.
I wonder who Trump would pick to replace Ginsburg. My money says a liberal, just “to be fair.”
The attacks against Cruz are becoming ridiculous and reflect poor critical thinking skills that one expects of liberals and trolls.
So what? So do I. He fooled a lot of us.
Well, you gotta admit that’s better than Bill “The Fornicator” Clinton ogling a rotted out corpse.
“:^)
No one expects him to be a soothsayer, but he recruited Roberts twice for the position while in the Bush Administration. He knew Roberts for years.
Cruz is the Consistent Conservative, right? The smartest conservative on the face of the earth, right?
But then, someone 'got to' Roberts, most likely.
We need people who have all their dirty laundry aired before we elect or appoint them.
I like both Trump and Cruz, so I’m not wading into that fight. I really think in all fairness, though, Roberts has been an unpleasant surprise for all of us. His ACA ruling certainly blindsided me.
“But he thinks about what it would be like to date her if he wasn’t her father.
And you don’t find that creepy?”
He NEVER said that. You have NO idea what he thinks! His children are good citizens, don’t drink, happily married.
I find you creepy
Yeah, that's not a course the Trumpers should take.
Did you?
Roberts was supported on FR too. Only critics were leftists back then cause they didn’t like he was an originalist.
Guess Roberts like Trump conned a lot on the Right.
If Trump wins and becomes president I would not be surprised if he nominated Hillary to the Supreme Court. He is THAT flaky.
I am not using Trumpish hyperbole, I am being serious. Look at his flip flops from the past, he is just as likely to flip back.
Roberts was not strong enough to stand up to blackmail and was not principled enough to resign. Only God knows a man’s heart. Oh, excuse me, God and you, obviously.
Well, we know what exactly was on Clinton’s mind - at all times.
I'm not buying that line of logic. Roberts had a decent past, there was reason for him to be recommended and approved.
Someone found a weakness and exploited it, and that was well beyond anything Cruz could influence.
That a SCOTUS jurist would rewrite an unconstitutional law to approve it is beyond anyone's expectations. Roberts was compromised, and you can't blame Cruz for that.
Trump when asked how he would select justices stated he would consult with leading Conservatives and come up with names.
You believe Hillary’s name would be on that list.
Seek help.
Reagan nominated O'Connor. Gonna slay him next?
Perhaps you could post the articles of the people saying John Roberts was a closet liberal.
While I am certainly unhappy with the Obamacare decision and I think Scalia was right I think I understand Roberts decision...
I think what he said is :
The legislature voted for this monstrosity and you are stuck with whatever stupid things your representatives do...If you don’t like it, get them to change it or get different representatives. The tax / fee argument though makes no sense to me and seemed political at best
