Iranian rockets passed within 1,500 yards of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz last week, a senior defense official confirmed Tuesday to Fox News.
Cmdr. Kyle Raines, a U.S. Central Command spokesman, said in a statement to the Associated Press early Wednesday that Iranian Revolutionary Guard naval vessels fired "several unguided rockets" after giving only 23 minutes' notice over maritime radio that a live-fire exercise would be carried out. The incident was first reported by NBC News.

Suggestion: live fire them right back. With accuracy.
More like a “hi there” from the Iranians to their buddy, Barak. Kinda like the guy who sunk the tourist ship to say hi to those on the coast.
No, just tabloid journalism designed to spike the adrenaline of readers.
The Iranian ships were firing directly away from the U.S. ships, towards Iran.
U.S. ships were 1,500 yards from the Iranian ships (backside of the missile launches).
Straight of Hormuz gets narrow. If you are going through it, you are going to be close to live-fire exercises.
IOW, they set us up with a trial run and we did NOTHING.
Yes, good analysis. The headline and hype were designed to sell commercials at Fox news.
Carriers are sitting ducks in those waters and our admirals know it and don’t like being there
1-1500 yards is close to a mile.
2-Bambi has no intention of generating a response in America’s best interest.
3-Bambi wouldn’t have clue how to respond if our carrier was hit.
and what did the carrier hit in response?
The rockets were no threat to the CVN (which was under some bad-assed escort) and we in fact fired in the opposite direction of the carrier and escorts.
It was more akin to an ironic welcoming ceremony.
Shame on Fox.
Absolutely correct.
This was only a provocation to little girls playing High Tea.
1. They would never be there when/if hostilities are imminent.
2. A surprise sinking of a US Carrier would mean existential nuclear war for the perp. That is the well-know rule. Just ask the Japanese.
Stop it was only a clock for goodness sake
Most of the hostilities would be over by the time he heard about it. Standing ROE at sea for a CVN and all supporting elements at sea is to destroy everything associated with firing on a CVN. Instantly.
Obviously the Captain was not too concerned or the headline would ready much more differently.
thanks. that’s a lot different than what the headline makes you think.
Provocation? Nope.
“Officials said the rockets traveled in a direction taking them away from the Truman and other shipping traffic in the strait...”
STRONGLY recommend you RTFA before posting.
I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he’s secretly overridden that standing order.
