On Monday night’s radio program, Conservative Review Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin called out Donald Trump for mimicking the statists and the Republican establishment by attacking rival Ted Cruz and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia over the weekend.
Listen:
Listen to the audio at the link.
Levin cited three “reckless comments” made by Donald Trump.
First, Mr. Trump joined in with a leftist on CNN to dump on Justice Scalia, who’s comments during oral argument have been unfairly accused of being racist. Conservatives know better.
Second, Levin said that Mr. Trump’s insinuation that Ted Cruz is bought and paid for by Texas oil companies because he opposes ethanol was “stupid.” Ethanol subsidies are a “typical, big-government, Stalinist program” and conservatives know better than to criticize a candidate who opposes government waste. Announcing your support for ethanol subsidies because you’re campaigning in Iowa is pandering.
Thirdly, Levin declared that Mr. Trump sided with the Republican establishment when he called Sen. Cruz a “maniac” for refusing to go along with the Washington establishment in the Senate. Isn’t Mr. Trump himself running an anti-establishment campaign? Why would he adopt Establishment talking points to attack another conservative?
Levin went on to say that running a populist campaign by abandoning conservative principles is nothing more than liberalism. If Mr. Trump is a conservative, he should not be attacking another conservative from the left.
Will Levin get petulant and lose allies for looking “unreasonable”?
It is possible to be “constitutional aficionado” to a fault. People are beginning to notice the worth of spiritual things again, IMHO, and to notice the little secret that you can’t do Constitution well unless you start doing God well (there is no right way to do the wrong thing). And the one who does God well is not always the one with God on his sleeve in neon sign letters (though again sometimes it is... I have to try to make that work for my own situation, but then I must really try hard to practice what I preach). And America had and still has a lot to learn. The problems of judicial supremacy and (initially) chattel slavery had been baked into the accepted Constitution.
I'll put Mark's resume of DISTINGUISHED Conservative accomplishments against yours any day.
So what have you done lately for the Conservative movement other than yap your trap?
Levin has never had an original thought his material is mostly stolen from Rush and his persona is stolen from Savage
Trump is going to make America great again and I believe it wholeheartedly.
You sound like Trump. Attacking the person since you can’t respond to the facts. Very sad. Very pathetic. Tragic, in fact.
I can understand loyalty to Trump. I’ve defended him from zealot TDS haters quite a bit here. But in this instance, Trump is misguided to go off on Cruz - presumably because Cruz hit #1 in Iowa in one poll is the only thing I can determin.
Thus far, these two have been pretty sympatico and friendly. I don’t see any reason at this point to embark on a fight between them and leave the real job of keeping Jeb Bush, Kasich, Rubio, et al so low on the polls they finally quit.
It just isn’t good strategy in my opinion.
This has nothing to do with Obama. Let's stay on topic.
He can forget about that Article 5.
Cruz flip flopped on TPP and H1B’s within the last 6 months.
His 17% sales tax would kill small business, and the economy.
But do go on.
Yeah Levin is Cruzs’ pit bull. Levin is jumping the shark with his continuous attacks on Trump. All these attacks on Trump do is flush out stealth supporters of the uniparty. Now we know Levin stands with the corrupt globalist ruling class, not we the people.
Anyhow, the answer to “trying to do the wrong thing the right way, running into frustration” problems isn’t to go screaming at your audience. It’s (pardon the expression) to go screaming to God. “What a hell of a mess we have here now! Help!”
Nothing about halting Muslim immigration, H1B visas, or Obamatrade votes?
Frankly, if I’m dead thanks to an imported terrorist then I don’t care about the other issues. And if I’m not dead then the next thing I need is a job.
I think Trump could do a pretty fair job of cheering America on in that direction. He can’t literally make it great like he was an emperor, and people should be wary of wanting an emperor. They should want a blessing God to come into their lives where they had formerly not been giving Him the time of day.
Pathetic response, how about arguing the facts?
I love listening to Levin but last night he was just unnecessarily unhinged.
I get he disagrees with Trump’s statements, but going off the hook like he did destroyed the objectivity of his broadcast, and outed him as unabashed Cruzbot.
He and everyone is saying Trump claims to support ethanol subsidies. Trump did indeed say he supports ethanol production at the town hall the other night, but he did NOT say he supports taxpayer subsidization. I’m shocked Levin didn’t even bother to research that.
Anyway, Levin lost me as a listener for a while. I’m giving him a break for the remainder of the week. I’ll stick to Hanity for a while.
Trump is not attacking Cruz, he’s just not. Rush made a big thing out of a simple question he answered on Fox News (Cruz says you don’t have the judgement to be President, what do you think about Ted Cruz)
Trump replies so simply, CRUZ doesn’t have the judgement to lead, he goes into the senate like a maniac and can’t convince anyone to do what he wants. Trump happens to be right of course but Rush and Levin don’t care because they have to run defense for Cruz. Non story made into something big because of Rush
I thought the same thing about these comments, long before Levin (and Limbaugh) made these points. Pandering to Iowa about corn is simply not principled. Trump’s comments on Scalia were simply uninformed. He lost a lot, in my opinion, in these attacks.
...trash Conservative icon, Mark Levin.
Rush Limbaugh is saying the same thing.
So, Cruz, Levin, Limbaugh & Cruz supporting Freepers are just posers and Trump is the new standard bearer for T.E.A. Party Conservatives.
No Thanks Donald MeCain.
Do you even know who Mark Levin is and what he's accomplished?
We're a nation of laws, not men. This country cannot be "made" great by a personality.
So I guess it does not matter that Trump was right on TARP? I didn’t like the TARP but if the banks fail the whole nation goes under and that was a real possibility.
Since it was Washington’s fault that the situation happened it should have been Washington’s responsibility to fix it. The issue is not TARP, the issue is that the congress did not rectify the underlying causes.
You’d be hard pressed to find anyone in real estate at the level Trump’s company is who has not used similar tactics when it comes to imminent domain. Your issue should be with those who wrote the laws not those who use them to their advantage.
And yeah, I guess that the Federal Government should have just sat idly by and let GM, Chrysler and Ford disappear taking 10’s of thousands of jobs down the drain and placing all those workers on welfare. Can you honestly say that any of them would have stayed in the US?
