A new national NBC News/SurveyMonkey online poll finds that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% has moved up 8% as Ben Carson dropped 8% leaving them tied for second place at 18%. Donald Trump, who was tied for the lead with Carson at 26% in the last NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll, is now in the lead at 28%. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 94% also moved up 2%, to 11%, and remains in fourth place. The rest of the Republican candidates remain at 4% or less. The two point moves by Trump and Rubio fall within the pollâs 2.9% margin of error.
Other interesting findings from new the NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll include:
â¾Carson is losing his support among evangelicals. He is now backed by just 25% of this group while Trump and Cruz have 23% and 22% respectively.
â¾Cruz now has the highest level of support among those who identify as very Conservative, with 40%, overtaking both Carson and Trump.
â¾Carson, Cruz, Rubio and Trump receive nearly equal levels of support among those with college degrees.
The upward movement of Cruz could be attributed to his organizational efforts with politically active church goers. And some credit should surely go to his response to the Paris terror attack we reported on here and here.
Carsonâs fall, or as Trump calls it âfree fall,â is the result of questions about Carsonâs grasp of foreign policy. Most, 71%, of the Republican insiders surveyed this week by The POLITICO Caucus said Carson was the most vulnerable Republican presidential candidate on foreign policy â far more than any other candidate.
Donât take this new poll too seriously. There are still more than two months before the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. Thatâs a very long time at this stage of a presidential campaign.
Go Ted Go!!!
No one on FR that I’ve seen. I do know a lot of people outside of FR like him. A lot. I don’t think the polls have been overly (just partially) cooked.
I think most FReepers are MUCH more politically sophisticated than the average Carson supporter.
While Carson seems to be well regarded here, most don't believe he has the chops to rule over people who don't wish him success.
No doubt there are Carson advocates but the most vocal and abusive cartel on FR effectively silences them.
It would be interesting to know what factors caused this shift. There are many possibilities.
A Republican acquaintance told me he was for Carson or Fiorina!
When I said I liked Cruz, he made a face. Same with Trump.
And he claims to be Conservative.
Not I, but I know some Carson supporters who are good folks. I have only talked with two of them since the Carson controversy and the targeting of him began and one still supports enthusiastically (and defensively) and the other is waffling a bit with Cruz as #2 and Trump as #3.
One thing I believe about Carson supporters is they are most likely to vote for the GOP nominee no matter what.
Just my .02 based on personal observations and not media coverage.
Ennnn B C.
Reuters average has Trump at 38, Carson 14, Cruz 7.
As the article says, it’s still over two months until the Iowa caucus. A lot can happen in that time.
I saw a ‘Sanders’ sticker here in rural East Tennessee the other day...assuming it was a college student.
It is interesting the wide difference in the Rueters and the NBC/Survey Monkey Poll. NBC survey more people but includes lean republican. Not sure which is better.
We have people in our town supporting bernie. I’ve seen a sign or two. Some of them had a debate watching party.
I wonder if they were disappointed when he covered hillary’s ass on the emails...
I think a lot of us thought when it all shook out it would be Trump and then Cruz as the first primaries started to poll
Everyone keep calm and CRUZ ON!!!
“And I said to the king to send for Churchill!”
This Poll
Trump 28
Cruz 18
Carson 18
Rubio 11
