Archaeologists To Ben Carson: Ancient Egyptians Wrote Down Why The Pyramids Were Built
Forbes ^ | 11/5/15 | Kristina Killgrove ,

Yesterday, November 4, marked 93 years to the day that the tomb of King Tutankhamen was opened in Egypt, revealing spectacular artifacts and a magnificent mummy of the boy king. The celebration was somewhat marred, at least here in the U.S., by a leading Republican candidate for president, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who confirmed a statement he'd made in 1998 - that he believes the Egyptian pyramids were grain silos, not tombs.

The collective reaction from archaeologists and historians, who have command of literally centuries' worth of research into the artifacts and literature of the ancient Egyptians, is... Wait, what now?

Carson said in his 1998 talk at Andrews University, a Seventh-Day Adventist-affiliated university, "And when you look at the way that the pyramids were made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they'd have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists [sic] have said, 'Well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that's how, you know, it doesn't require an alien being when God is with you.'"

Just to be clear, no scientists think that aliens built the pyramids. There is a small but vocal contingent of people who believe in pseudoarchaeological explanations, but archaeologists have dismantled those harebrained theories at every possible turn. (See, for example, my piece, "What Archaeologists Really Think about Ancient Aliens, Lost Colonies, and Fingerprints of the Gods.") So while it may look good for Carson to deny alien involvement in pyramid building, he also attributes them to a white guy rather than, well, the ancient Egyptians.

“Can I ask, what in the Sam hill does Carson’s view of the pyramids have to do with what he would do as President?”

Maybe it’s just me, but having common sense is a “litmus test” for presidential candidates. Anyone who believes something like this has none.

“I.e., unless someone has written records from around 1500 B.C., count me skeptical.”

Yes, they’re called hieroglyphics, we’ve been able to translate them for over a century now.

.

Hey, it ain't fair ...

But, man oh man, Ben Carson's (publicly stated) ideas that the pyramids were for food storage (instead of tombs) is really peculiar ...

BTW ... did you know that the pharaohs did hang-gliding from the pyramid tops to test their alien-inspired internal combustion engine ?

just for the record ... /sarcasm-off

My Bible knowledge is a bit out of practice but there were 7 years of abundance followed by 7 years of famine. The Great Pyramid took 20 years to build and most pyramids took 10. So yeah, Ben’s theory is a little loopy. Regardless, he has absolutely zero qualifications to be president.

Even the Bible proves Carson wrong on this, because it says the grain was stored in the cities, and the pyramids were not built in cities.

The SDA folks have a bit of a bug about healthy eating. (The Kelloggs of cereal fame were from that line.) This is basically a religious discussion. I think they play it up too much and the tail is wagging the dog. Working men do great on those narsty cholesterol rich breakfasts which are denser in calories than grain is. But if this really was a God thing then all else would kinda sorta make sense.

Clearly, the elites FEAR Ben Carson. That’s why he needs to be Trump’s running mate. The elites fear Carson because they know the common folks love him.

That’s an excellent point... plus, it was not easy to put up a pyramid, either.

Asked on Wednesday (yesterday) if he still held these views, Carson told CBS News: "It's still my belief, yes."

Exactly. Who cares about this garbage, we have a woman running for president who knowingly lied to the American people about what happened under her watch to an American Ambassador and three other Americans! For goodness sakes.

Which is more important: Hillary’s known lies or Carson’s hair-brained ideas about the purpose of the pyramids? We know what the MSM thinks is more important to report but does that necessarily make it so?

Ancient Egyptians WERE white. Or at least, not sub-Saharan black Africans.

Nefertiti, ca. 1330 BC

The pyramid-building, banks-of-the-Nile-farming Egyptians probably came over from Mesopotamia (where agriculture is thought to have gotten started in the West), saw all the fertile farmland, slaughtered or drove off any prior hunter/gatherer people there, and took it for their own.

This shows a profound lack of intelligence. Thirty seconds of thinking about this should be sufficient for any decent scientist that storage structures require stability, easy access for loading/unloading (proximity, roads, doors, halls), minimizing footprint, while maximizing internal storage volume. The Great Pyramids are mostly solid with only a fraction of a percent usable space, and winding, narrow, and steep rough hewn tunnels connecting the rare open spaces.
