Archaeologists To Ben Carson: Ancient Egyptians Wrote Down Why The Pyramids Were Built
Forbes ^ | 11/5/15 | Kristina Killgrove ,

Yesterday, November 4, marked 93 years to the day that the tomb of King Tutankhamen was opened in Egypt, revealing spectacular artifacts and a magnificent mummy of the boy king. The celebration was somewhat marred, at least here in the U.S., by a leading Republican candidate for president, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who confirmed a statement he'd made in 1998 - that he believes the Egyptian pyramids were grain silos, not tombs.

The collective reaction from archaeologists and historians, who have command of literally centuries' worth of research into the artifacts and literature of the ancient Egyptians, is... Wait, what now?

Carson said in his 1998 talk at Andrews University, a Seventh-Day Adventist-affiliated university, "And when you look at the way that the pyramids were made, with many chambers that are hermetically sealed, they'd have to be that way for various reasons. And various of scientists [sic] have said, 'Well, you know there were alien beings that came down and they have special knowledge and that's how, you know, it doesn't require an alien being when God is with you.'"

Just to be clear, no scientists think that aliens built the pyramids. There is a small but vocal contingent of people who believe in pseudoarchaeological explanations, but archaeologists have dismantled those harebrained theories at every possible turn. (See, for example, my piece, "What Archaeologists Really Think about Ancient Aliens, Lost Colonies, and Fingerprints of the Gods.") So while it may look good for Carson to deny alien involvement in pyramid building, he also attributes them to a white guy rather than, well, the ancient Egyptians.

Yeah, I know. He’s off my list because he’s an SDA. The purpose of the pyramids is very low on my list of things I care about. It’s like the Old Earth vs Young Earth debate: unless you are going to create a planet, it really doesn’t matter what you think.

Biblical Scholars to Ben Carson: The Bible Says Where the Egyptians Stored Their Grain, And It Wasn’t The Pyramids

46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt. 47 During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. 48 Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. 49 Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure.

Ho-hum, and Hillary believes Arab Spring has spread Western values throughout the Mideast. Fill the pyramids with that crap.

Poor guy. All it shows is that he never had the opportunity to go visit the pyramids. He would have seen first hand that they are nearly solid stone with a few darned hard to access chambers.

Not a lot of room for grain.

It has everything to do about being president.

What if he had said that Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead was nothing more than a magic act at the local circus?

He is a doctor you know, he knows about these things.

It is his lack of judgement for even speaking about this.

No, Ben Carson is not presidential material, not even close.

Do you have the source where Carson reaffirmed it recently that the pyramids were used to store grain?

I don’t think the guy who wrote this realizes that Tut was never buried inside a pyramid.

Okay, so his PERSONAL OPINION about the Egypian pyramids is wrong...

WHAT has that to do with the office of POTUS???

I doubt it’ll (the pyramids) come up as a major issue in U.S. Policy over the next 4 years...

Meanwhile, Hillary can lie and be wrong about NATIONAL SECURITY issues and the country yawns...

This is sickening to me.

This is all it takes to "somewhat mar" these celebrations? Really? Were the celebrants crying in their beer? Consoling each other? Is their ability to "celebrate" so fragile that an off-hand comment made by a then-neurosurgeon, nearly two decades ago, has the capacity to stand in the way of their presumably otherwise-raucous celebration?

At least this peeing-in-the-punchbowl effect, while capable of spanning across the decades, was not capable of spreading to other countries, where celebrants could enjoy the moment unhindered by these two decade old, off-hand comments.

>>If BEN CARSON was too preoccupied to check the facts on the Pyramids, will he fly by his pants as President on the Middle East Crisis and other pressing issues facing America?

I don’t think it was a fact-checking problem. I think that he truly believes that and it is a part of this faith. Ted Cruz has been savvy enough to not proclaim that he is a Young Earth Creationist, but he did launch his campaign from Liberty U where I am a student and they are unashamedly YEC.

As I said in post 22, I am not supporting him because he is SDA, so I really don’t care about his views on ancient architecture. I see this as a way of getting him out of Rubio’s way, just as today’s eminent domain issue is a way of moving Trump out of the way.

Cruz is next guys. It is just like 2012 where they take out each candidate one single slip of the tongue until only the GOProgressive is left so that he can lose to the Democrat and blame the conservatives.

Hope everyone forgives me, but being a Seventh-Day Adventists is loopy enough on its own.

I had a pair of those ladies show up at my door a couple of weeks ago and after a long spiel, they told me that God would return us and the Earth to its pre-Original Sin state and humans would live on this wonderful Earth forever.

I told them that that was the most boring version of Heaven I had heard of and that I would much prefer being in the presence of God.

They left in a huff.

It doesn’t mean anything-——except that Carson is trying to be demonized 24/7 because he doesn’t “think” how the “experts/gods” tell him.

He is off the plantation....and has to be destroyed.

Now, when Charles Dawkins states that “aliens seeded the earth”-—he is a great “scientist”-—and when that godless “brilliant” scientist, Steven Hawking, states “Philosophy is dead” in his book— stupid, ignorant, irrational statements, they are “still” glorified. They always are because they promote the irrational atheist “meme” (only allowed way to “think”)....so they are “smart” and brilliant, despite stating incoherent DUMB things.

Anyone who promotes Christianity, at any level, will be marginalized and destroyed because it is the ONLY Worldview which created the Age of Reason and Modern Science and the Marxists need to destroy the Christian ideology of Individualism and Natural Law Theory (basis of US Constitution)——to collapse civil society and create little sodomite, pagan, tribal “thinkers”-—so they can have “happy slaves” like Fichte designed in the Prussian system of “group think’.

Actually there is some merit to Carson’s comments, but this is not true for all pyramids.

I would advise looking into Imhotep, Famine Stela, and Pharoah Djoser.

Also to note are the changes in building of pyramids at Imhotep’s time versus the style prior.
