GOP frontrunner Donald Trump thinks Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) is a very nice guy, but far from [his] first choice to be the next Speaker of the House.
Trump weighed in on the race for House Speaker on Twitter Saturday morning: Paul Ryan is far from my first choice, but a very nice guy. The Republicans should go for tough and (very) smart this time no games!
His tweet comes after CBS News reported that Trump said he would be okay with Ryan as Speaker in an interview set to air Sunday on Face the Nation.
Trump said of Ryan, who has been pressured by GOP lawmakers to enter the leadership race since House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), R-California, abruptly removed himself from consideration Thursday:
Well, I think hes somebody that probably could get good support. I think hes a very nice person. I think he doesnt want it very badly, but you never know. Maybe hes playing one of the great games of all time. It is Speaker of the House, I mean, its a great position. But he doesnt seem to want it. But Ill bet you that if it was actually offered to him, he would take it.

I have no problem with Trump being somewhat ignorant to Ryan’s follies, but he seems to know a bit more today than yesterday.
Trump should say no to Ryan.
Period.
So, this turns out to be another instance where the Media grabs part of a soundbite and runs with it.
Many of the morning threads were about how Trump was okay with Ryan as Speaker. Ryan does seem to be the Media preference.
Yep!...he’s a fast learner.....Go Trump!
Whistlers....
Hooray! Trump got the memo. Boehner only shows what a poor ‘leader’ he is. Why offer the job to a guy who doesn’t want it? What a dunce. What’s he gonna do, twist Ryan’s arm till he accepts. The Wisconsin weasel would be a very poor choice given what he has done in the past and he’s already declined. Mr. T might you have a suggestion? Name please.
Yes, he was for him until he was sort of not for him. This is typical Trump trying to figure out how a conservative would answer as a situation comes up. That happens when you have no definite conservative principles in your life. I would bet he has a sheet to look at so he will know what he is supposed to be for and against every day. I am not a Trump hater, but I don’t see conservative principles in his life before he became a candidate.
Ryan does seem to be the Media preference.

At minimum the next Speaker and the next President must be people who will stand for the rule of law and the citizens
He’ll move to center during the general.
Apparently you did not hear how Ted Cruz answered the question of who should be the next Speaker ...
“Ryan is for amnesty.”
How would have the aveage person have had known that?
I took what Trump said yesterday as tepid, if not begrudging ‘support’ of the idea of Ryan. This isn’t really much of a change.
We will not support RYno ever. He voted to fund obamacare 4 times!! He is an amnesty freak. He actually voted for illegal amnesty!! Absolutely NO!
Your right, I wonder who has been consulting him? ...Ted perhaps. O still waiting on Donald to attack Ted Cruz for his statement on the Donald. =)
Ted Cruz teamed up with Paul Ryan to Ram Thru
TPP fast track and Treason treaty which has Amnesty and Massive H1 Visa Invasion!l
Cruz gave our Enemy Barry the Soros puppet unlimited power and help create a Treaty that kills our Constitution
Trump opposes both !
So who is more conservative again ?
So who is more Conservative!
Cruz wants a 300 % increase in H 1 visas for his Billionaire donors !
Trump opposes that !
Who is more conservative again ?
Cruz Voted Yes on the Disaster Senator Corker Deal that gave Iran Billions and The Nuclear Bomb!
Trump opposed !
Who is more Conservative again ?.
Trump is all cases !
But please feel free to explain Ted Cruz betrayal !
You have said it well. I am not sold on Trump being a conservative at all.
I have already listened to the whole Cruz interview with Rita Cosby. Cruz wouldn’t endorse anyone for speaker. He said he was not a member of the House and he would leave it to them to choose. That was the proper response instead of interjecting himself into the House’s business.
Is there a list of all the Republican Contenders choices for the new Speaker of the House, or are they exempt from any scrutiny due to yet another outbreak of TDS?
I have no memory of any Republican Primary Candidate ever being asked to weigh in on who they think should run the House. If it has happened in the past, it’s news to me.
