Ben Carson has surged into a statistical dead heat with Donald Trump in the race for the 2016 GOP nomination, a new poll shows.
According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday, Trump still leads the race, with the support of 21% of Republican primary voters across the U.S., but Carson follows with 20% well within the polls 6-percentage-point margin of error.
Just weeks ago, Trump was still the clear front-runner but Carson has been steadily gaining on him since Trumps average performance in the second Republican debate earlier this month.
And just one month ago, in the July NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, Carson attracted only 10% support, compared with Trumps 19%.
In the latest poll, former tech exec Carly Fiorina and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tied for third, both getting 11% support, while former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush came in fourth with 7%.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz followed with 6% and 5%, respectively, while no other candidate received more than 3% support.
Meanwhile, NBC/Wall Street Journal polling of the Democratic candidates, also released Sunday, showed their race for the nomination tightening too.

As I said on another thread, if polls trend in this direction, I accept the outcome. If all polls show something else, and one comes up with a skewed outcome, I’m not going to accept the outcome.
Most polls right now show Trump in the 28-32% range. They show Carson in the 9 to 12% range.
Along comes this poll that shows Trump wildly lower and Carson wildly higher, not confirmed anywhere else, and I look at it and laugh.
This poll is utter nonsense.
I’m a Trump supporter and I agree with you.
Just because Carson doesn’t mouth off you call him weak?
And is he really worse than Trump in the left department? I have never totally trusted Trump to be really conservative both from some of his actions, as well as his “close associations” and support shown on Apprentice.
The truth is most here are imperfect and frankly there is no ideal in terms of conservative, once again. Though I’d gamble most are better than 50%
Any poll that has Yeb at 7% is suspect at best....but then again it is the WSJ
That IS about it, isn’t it? That is what it has come to, for real!
Trump has GOT be knocked out, so says the media, and the GOP, K Street, Wall Street, the CoC, MEXICO, and the Democrats, who now serve nicely on BOTH sides of the aisle.
It is up to all of us whether it works. Trump rocks and is the best at telling the American voter WHY he is running, WHAT he is going to do, and WHY he is not THE man for the job, but why he is the ONLY man for the job! It’s called, Campaigning 101.
Who else does that? The rest are weak sisters, stuck dragging around their silver tongue and their fine resume of “experience”, and hoping it sells. Trump actually CARES that he wins!
imho. :) lol, Rita
What is your definition of political establishment?
Basically noone knew who she was until she started running. If that is establishment then I don’t know what is not.
I like Ben but I do not believe this for NY minute.
Are you talking about the Carson who wants to give guest worker status to all illegals living off taxpayers and said he would not have shot Michael Brown but would have arrested him. He could not have arrested the 300 lb giant any more than Officer Wilson could have. That Carson? Funny how a Muslim comment raises him so in polls that nothing else matters.
BS
It’s a Christmas miracle!!!!
Carson rises 8-10 pts, overnight :)
but then again it is the WSJ

“The Wall Street Journal is the most powerful tool Republican leadership uses to hit conservatives. Sen. Ted Cruz
I assume Carson is up because he told the truth about an Islamic POTUS.
Somebody has been drinking the Kool Aid again. :-)
We’re talking about the Carson, who only became a Republican in 2014. Before that he was a Democrat and an Ind pendent. Why isn’t anyone raking him over the coals like they do Trump, calling him a flaming liberal?
They’re just trying too hard to rationalize their way into someone other than Trump leading the polls. So, Trump turned in an average performance in the most recent debate? What sort of performance did Carson turn in? I don’t recall anything particularly noteworthy. Carson is a nice man, very accomplished and statesmanlike, and he does not deserve to be treated poorly or spoken badly about, and so I won’t. He has a place in a future Republican administration.
Another black in the White House will guarantee another teflon-coated presidency. White politicians will never criticize Carson for anything he does just because he is black and no one wants to be accused of “racism”. Do we really need the same damn paradigm all over again after having given Obama an eight-year free pass to do whatever the hell he wants with no consequences to him?
Fia-RINO’s not an outsider. She’s been trying to get elected forever. It’s just that no one wants her.
One is an actual ‘outsider’, 2 are ‘proclaimed outsiders’ for sale.......
Bill Clintons fart has a better chance than Carson at being elected POTUS.
They couldn’t poll any more than that. Once the computer showed they got the numbers where they wanted them, they told everyone to stop making calls. If they kept calling, they made the judgment that the numbers might’ve gotten skewed away from their target.
