Club for Growth Launches $1 Million Anti-Trump Ad Campaign
WSJ ^ | September 15, 2015 | Rebecca Ballhaus

Posted on 09/15/2015 8:29:09 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

The fiscal conservative advocacy group Club for Growth said on Tuesday it was funding $1 million in advertisements attacking Republican Donald Trump in the early-nominating state of Iowa, the first concentrated campaign to dislodge the front runner in the race for the GOP nomination.

The ads will launch on Thursday, a day after the second official GOP debate in which Mr. Trump will again take the center podium. They publicize statements Mr. Trump has made in recent years in which he takes positions on health care, taxes, and other issues that the group says align him with Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton. One ad ends with a picture of Mr. Trump and his wife posing with the Clintons. The ads also seek to undermine Mr. Trump’s efforts to cast himself as an outsider to Washington, calling him “just another politician.”....

When Mr. Trump first announced his campaign in June, Mr. McIntosh said the group did not plan to subject his candidate to the level of scrutiny it had other major GOP hopefuls, calling him not a serious Republican candidate.” But as Mr. Trump maintains his lead in the polls, some Republicans have ramped up their efforts to blunt his rise.

Among the top donors in the first half of the year to Club for Growth Action—the group’s super PAC, which will pay for the ads—are some who have given millions to Mr. Trump’s rivals. Richard Uihlein, the CEO of a Wisconsin-based shipping company, gave a $2.5 million, together with his wife, to the super PAC backing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. He gave the largest contribution to Club for Growth—$500,000. The group’s second-largest donor, hedge-fund magnate Robert Mercer, gave $11 million to the super PAC backing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and another $500,000 to the group supporting former Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive Carly Fiorina.

His family connections are where he’s made his money.

Here in Tampa he put his name on a new high rise condo. They took deposits and signed contracts.

Building isn’t going to be built. His company isn’t refunding the deposits.

Here’s what I was responding to.

“It seems strange that a group of PAC’s would all be supporting different candidates.
The 11M to Cruz is probably why he has been wishy-washy on H1b.

I’d be willing to bet the $$$ really comes from Zukerberg.”

Utmost respect indeed.

And I’ve yet to see mindless criticism of Trump on FR. I’ve seen a lot of mindless support. Show me some mindless Trump hatred on FR.

His family connections are where he’s made his money.

He inherited about $350 million. I don't recall the exact figure, but I believe that's roughly ball-park.

In the last 1980s early 90s, his businesses fell on hard times. His net worth dropped to negative $150 million.

What he has today was entirely of his own doing.

As for his real estate situation that you addressed, he has to comply with federal and state regulations.

“You must remember that a governor is an executive, a governor actually does things. Trump can say all that he wants but he doesn’t have the experience and success in areas that we need our next president to have (and one who has shown that he CAN get the job done).”

You would rather have a politician over a businessman who created jobs and made billions? You call that nothing? In today’s government heavy control over businesses, I’m impressed with anyone who can make it through the web of regulations and still come out on too.

LMFAO, too, TOO funny. Thanks for the sooooftball.

Besides this thread and any thread that posts an ABCCBSCNNNBCFOX/AP hit piece on Trump, you could look through my posting history starting a few weeks ago.

Too easy — thanks, have a great day!

Repeating this over & over again helps Walker how?

How exactly is it harming Trump?

Broken records always get thrown out in the end.

Cruz plays a smart game. He is not antagonizing anyone except Boner and McTurtle, who he would fire on Day 1.

Trump is an a$$. I know that. So do almost all of his supporters.

Trump is an egomaniac. Trump is a political liberal or conservative depending on whether he got up on the left or right side of the bed. All his supporters know that.

And they support him anyway.

Do you understand WHY? That’s the important bit.

Trump may win because the bastards in charge of both parties are not trustworthy, and do not have a single difference on how the government is actually run, which is Liberally.

If you want to grind your axe, go after Boner and McTurtle. They caused Trump. We have to fight our way past them before we can even find a liberal to fight.

Cruz is still a distant also-ran. We will see how his “smart game” works out in the end.

So far. Cruz has better ground game than the rest, I think. And Trump may fizzle. Cruz sits in the spot where all the anti-establishment votes go when their wild candidates fizzle.

That’s my wishful thinking. :-)

You accuse me of being a paid campaigner?

I’ve never worked for any campaign.

The better one to criticize and look at scornfully is Trump, who’s a liberal and stop accusing conservatives.

Is that what you think this country needs, Donald Trump in in the White House?

I don’t.

Wherever....

I must have missed the innuendo, and didn’t notice any of the personal attacks that usually accompany a response to another poster who is presumed to support Trump.

“What he has today was entirely of his own doing.”

Nonsense, he did it through who he and his family knew. Without his name it would not have been possible. He got that from his family.

Sure he’s a fantastic marketer, but he’s also led several businesses into bankruptcy.

Very cogent argument, but this thread has already seriously deterioriated into a spitefest by Trump haters who allege to support Cruz.
