The rise of Donald Trump might represent some massive sea change in American politicsbut its far more likely he will fade long before the primary season does. Thanks to Trump, August was a blockbuster month for the political press, but most of what is happening now wont decide who is sworn in on Jan. 20, 2017

#7. Trump is still unlikely to be the nominee. Were not disputing that Donald Trump is the clear polling frontrunner on the GOP side, or that he has struck a chord with millions of voters unimpressed with politicians that talk rather than do. Two other candidates whove never held elected office, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina, are also attracting large shares of support.
However, the Trump candidacy has all the markings of an early bubble that will eventually burst. Were betting that most Republicans will return to traditional politicians as the election season rolls on. Out of the current 17 GOP candidates, five come closest to meeting the usual metrics required to win a major-party nomination: Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and John Kasich.
As concerned as many are about Bushs dynasty burdens and Jebs uneven, unexciting performances on the trail, he still has the best chance to win over the party establishment (big donors and big-name politicians). Plus, his $119 million, and growing, war chest is far greater than those of his rivals.

Jeb has $119 million? Don’t know how accurate it is but I heard the other day that in present day dollars, $119 million would be the cost of the Titanic.
Trump’s initial “gift” to us all is that he’s “outed” people we thought all along were like us, when they really were’t. Trump is changing the political landscape wholesale. Hopefully, the GOPe will never recover from what he’s done.
“I guess he can just use the rest for a big a$$ vacation. “
We should hope that he does.
You mean the ones you've already bought? I'm not interested in doing that again.
The media’s job every day is to remind us of two things: That Trump isn’t really doing that well and Hillary isn’t really doing that bad. It doesn’t matter that it’s not true in any way, that’s the story they’re pushing and they’re sticking to it.
: Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and John Kasich.
One of these is not an amnesty candidate
I will never vote for amnesty.
So it looks like they need to nominate Ted Cruz if they don’t want Trump.
That is the 1,468th time I have heard this prediction from the "experts".
(Yes I did make up that number.)
BWAHAHAHAHAHHA
Larry Sabato.....rarely right but ALWAYS convinced
The American citizens are sick of the illegal alien inundation and want it stopped.
THAT is the wave Trump is riding. If he steers off it, he’ll lose momentum. If he doesn’t, he rides it all the way to the White House.
They misread the McCain loss in the 2008 election.
They misread the 2010 midterm election results.
They misread the Romney loss in the 2012 election.
They misread the 2014 midterm election results.
And they're misreading the paradigm shifting, rebellion election of 2016.
Gosh it’s great to get to the real TRUTH. /s
Here’s the kicker. Trump will fizzle out like a spent Roman Candle.
Then one of these traditional well seasoned candidates will win.
Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and John Kasich.

Screw these clowns!
Classic!
“the usual metrics”
Maybe Politico needs to realize that Americans are tired of ‘the usual metrics.’ The usual metrics lead to horrendous Presidents like the one we have now.
And so far, they can’t find a life preserver.
Not only that, being from Virginia should have taught him a lesson about the money assumption. Just ask Eric Cantor, former Republican House Majority Leader, how a lowly college professor could beat, and I mean beat, him for less ($100,000 total) than he paid for a donors campaign steak dinner.
The entire beltway crowd is simply stuck on stupid. Just ask Brit Hume who took a vacation to Maine and came back with the same startling discovery of just how pissed off we are.
Thank you, Onyx!
Sabato represents what a great country we truly are. That even a complete idiot can make it here.
