White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Friday that those who oppose the Iran nuclear agreement, like former Vice President Dick Cheney and presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, are "pro-war" and are some of the same people who got the U.S. into a war with Iraq in 2003.
"There's no doubt that we've seen forceful advocacy to kill this deal," Earnest said. "It's the same forceful advocacy we've seen in the run up to the Iraq war in 2003. In fact it's many of the same people making the same arguments."
Cheney is scheduled to appear Sept. 8 at the conservative American Enterprise Institute to make a major address concerning the Iran deal's national security consequences for the United States and Middle East. Earnest said Cheney is going to "take up the mantel" and "assume a familiar role" in "advocating against diplomacy and in favor of war."
"It's not the first time he's made that argument, it's not even the first time he's made that argument in the context of decisions like this," he added.
Earnest then targeted Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for participating in what he called a "pro-war" rally on the steps of the United States Capitol Sept. 9.
Cruz organized a similar rally against the Iran deal in front of the White House earlier this summer, and Earnest labeled it a "pro-war" rally at the time.
Asked whether Cheney's opposition is a blessing in disguise, he said he would leave it up to political analysts to decide.
"But there's no denying that shortly after Labor Day, we'll see Vice President Cheney, Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump emerge as the leading voices of opposition to the Iran deal that's just a fact," he said.
Pressed on why he considers them pro-war because they oppose the deal, Earnest said Cruz has supported Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's position that on the first day at the White House as president, he would revoke the Iran deal and would be ready to take military action against Iran.
"It's not too hard to imagine that we're going to go the same path that led us to war in Iraq," he said.
Earnest isn’t.
Facts do not matter.
Exactly! And Donald Trump had been against the war in Iraq. So, that leaves Dick Cheney and he's not even running.
Obviously the dems are looking for a way to blame the Republicans if the Iran Deal passes.
Why no mention of Bob Corker in the story?
Cheney, Cruz and Trump are the real face of America. The Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free. Those who favor the Iran deal are cowards and slaves.
Hillary Clinton voted for the Iraq War.
Biden also voted for it.
Trump and Cruz? Uh, no.
Then when Biden jumps in, we can say all the major Dem candidates voted to go into Iraq, while none of the Republican candidates did.
Constantly repeating that should drive Big Media bonkers!
LOL
Careful, there may be a run on that sort of thing creating a shortage of beds. Best to keep that to yourself.
Dick Cheney is an avowed anti-Communist.
I still have that screen capture of the day the mulatto queer was first immaculated, and walked by Cheney. If looks could kill, the mulatto would have been.
Green light nukes for Iran and give them $150 to 200 billion in cash to finance world terrorism.
Winning! /s
Stupidity.
“Trump and Cruz were not legislators in 2003.”
That would be a good followup question.
A bunch of quislings trying to tell us that their treacherous, traitorous swill is good for us all.
I pray God in Heaven that our Congress shows a spine and defeats it with a large enough majority to over-ride Obama's veto.
it is a sick travesty because this thing is a TREATY...and that REQUIRES a 2/3rd majority vote in the Senate to ratify, which Obama could never get. So he is doing another end-run aoround the Constitution.
I would urge folks not to state something like that.
It puts a bull’s eye on them and any forum or associates they may be dealing with.
Trump will be gone soon enough. He may never get what is coming to him, but public scorn can be a very tough thing too.
LOL< meant to say Obama will be gone soon enough.
Sorry about that...
I understand your trepidation, DoughtyOne, but these Washington fascists have been threatening to kill us if we don’t buckle to their illegal demands for the past 40 years.
I know them for who they are alright.
Despicable people...

Trump is right. You can’t just tear up a contract, however, Iran has no problem not keeping their end of the deal. Who knows what their end is anyway? Stupid Kerry and Obama gave away the store to them, and got nothing in return. By the time we get a new president - the money will probably have been disbursed - we still have 14 months until the next election. Which, by the way, these past 6 1/2 years or so have been the longest of my lifetime. It has been a nightmare. I think Trump said something about the banks or whatever and renegotiating a better deal. I’m not sure, so, I can’t comment on that aspect. I do know he said you can’t just tear up a contract.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. What a stupid person Josh is - Trump was against the Iraq war. I don’t know how Cruz felt because he has never expressed his viewpoint on it, that I know of.
