I saw on the news this morning that South Florida is in severe drought. I didn’t make it up.

Oh, you saw it on the news! Lol. Okay. You can go look at the actual rainfall numbers from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) website, both year to date and historical averages. As I said, lower than normal average wet rainfall, but it’s not considered severe or exceptional.

Okay. Clearly you’re more interested in the sensational CBS story than in looking at the real numbers. Good luck to you.

PS. Irrigation rules in South Florida are always limited to 2 days per week (I think commercial areas can do 3) on certain days depending on what your address is, so that residents are still able to water their lawns 2 days a week tells me that the drought ain’t that bad. When droughts get really bad watering is cut to 1 day per week or not at all.

Its supposed to become a hurricane as it approaches Florida over open waters. Not according to the most recent models. In fact, it's slated to be a minimal tropical storm by the time it hits U.S. land.

SE Florida, Miami area may be dry but SW Florida is very saturated right now. We’ve had months of daily heavy rain showers and all the ponds have been full since June.

By Texas standards, if you still have lakes you’re not in a drought :)

Tropical Storm Erika Weakens, Heads Toward Hispaniola"Wind shear has weakened Tropical Storm Erika as it approaches Hispaniola. It if remains intact after crossing mountainous Hispaniola, it may strengthen while crossing the southern Bahamas. The official tracking map has Erika making landfall over south Florida early next week."

Latest sketty models have it taking nearly the same path as Charlie in ‘04.
