After a month of deliberation following a vote by the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America to allow openly gay Scout leaders, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that they will go forward with the faith's 102-year association with Scouting, according to a statement released Wednesday morning.
The statement came from the church's Council of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who said the BSA assured the church it would be able to appoint Scout leaders based on the faith's values.
"In the resolution adopted on July 27, 2015, and in subsequent verbal assurances to us, BSA has reiterated that it expects those who sponsor Scouting units (such as the church) to appoint Scout leaders according to their religious and moral values 'in word and deed and who will best inculcate the organizations values through the Scouting program,'" the statement said.
Gay Latter-day Saints may serve in church assignments as long as they live the faith's standards, which proscribe acting on same-sex attraction.
The church issued a strongly worded statement after the July vote saying that the BSA decision to lift the ban on all gay leaders "is inconsistent with the doctrines of the church and what have traditionally been the values of the Boy Scouts of America."

Thats right. Take the words of sinners at face value.
We’re all sinners. The problem is enabling infiltrators whose purposes conflict with the purposes of the organization.
I’m taking my son to TrailLife for his second meeting tonight. LDS is big enough to form their own operation if TrailLife doesn’t work for them.
“... subsequent verbal assurances ....”
As Judge Judy would say: “The assurances are worth as much as the paper they are written on”!
BSA will subvert the agreement as soon as possible.
Sounds like the Harry Reid Branch of the LDS talking.
This is, at best, a temporary measure to buy time while an alternative is organized. The GAYstapo has made it clear that they will not be satisfied until their perverts have full access to the boys, not just those who admit to same sex attraction and (say they will) refuse to act on it.
My Grandson’s may yet become Scouts. SCOUTS in the LDS.
In two years at most the BSA will require all troops to allow pederast homosexuals as Scout Masters.
Two years seems to be the BSA pattern for their incremental plan to entrap boys into being sex toys for perverts. Every two years they push the envelope again.
In ten years they’ll have a merit badge for sodomy.
So start the clock for the first child molestation suit.
Of course they will. They had their big public show about how upset they were, and now back to business as usual.
wise men are showing the way
We had lots of adult Eagle Scouts in Mira Mesa 2nd, and added quite a few from the troop in the 15 years I was there. I found the environment a bit more supportive than my old troop 857 at Hazel Goes Cook Elementary in Chula Vista. I made Eagle on April 12, 1972.
I had no doubt in my mind this would happen.
Did you expect this LDS outcome?
they should form their own organization.....
I’m shocked! (Not)
It is they way the Boy Scouts are protecting themselves from the gay community taking over the boys in their care.... Church after church is being asked to sponsor a troupe to protect the boys and being asked to lay our rules(which everyone understands what they are asking to protect the boys from).
Local troupes are advertising this Baptist Church's troupe(etc) must follow the churches rules and parents can go ask the church what is allowed and not allowed, telling parents right off that that troupe is safe.
It is a very quiet brilliant strategy thought up by high end lawyers.
Riiiiiight. LDS scout leader coming out of the closet and suing LDS in 3... 2... 1...
Honestly, I thought it could go either way based on their previous behavior with the youth decision.
I figure that they may be buying time in order to get their own program started, or maybe they’re in agreement with the policy as long as they get theirs, or that they’re naive and truly believe the BSA will honor the exemption.
TLUSA is essentially incompatible with the LDS based on core beliefs, so I don’t think they’ll be going there.
Either way, the homofascists have already thrown down the gauntlet and stated the exemptions undercut the decision as a whole. So this battle/war is far from over for them.
Time will tell...either way, I’m out at the end of the year. Won’t be renewing my registration in any capacity within the BSA.
I’m glad the churches are doing that. Homosexuals probably figure they’ll do away with churches in about ten years.
