LANCASTER, Ohio (Tribune News Service) The armed civilians who have been guarding a military recruitment center here are gone, ordered off the property after one of them accidentally discharged his rifle on Thursday.
No one was injured.
U.S. Properties Group Portfolio Four LLC, the owner of the shopping center near the River Valley Mall that includes the multi-branch military recruitment center, ordered the armed volunteers to leave just hours after the shot was fired.
A Lancaster police officer delivered the order to several of them outside the Armed Services Career Center, saying, God bless you, but they had to leave.
The armed civilians have been guarding the center since Monday.
One of them has been charged with a misdemeanor after he accidentally fired his AR-15 rifle. Someone from the recruiting center at 1530 River Valley Blvd. flagged down an officer at 12:01 p.m. to report the incident, Lt. Shane Wilson said.

You write checks your assumptions cannot cash.
Plus put your life in the basis of bad training for the inexperienced and untrusted.
Your former Condition 3 training was borne of politics, not safety.

>>Your former Condition 3 training was borne of politics, not safety.
Explain the politics of my training in 1980 and how it had nothing to do with safety.
That is a sad commentary. My gun training started very early with my Dad, as I come from a generation when young boys wore holsters with cap guns and cowboy hats and boots.
"Why, shucks, fellas, it sure is good to be heah with y'all. Got to keep them A-rabs in line, y'know" [BAM!] "Well, gosh darn it, looks like I done fired mah assault rifle. Must be my magazine was too durn big. I surely hope they don't chase y'all away on account 'o me."
Though similar suspicions aren't my best (current!) guess about what happened there, they were quick to come to my mind.
Agreed.
Proper training and weapons discipline are the answer, not a policy that directly impacts the ability to respond to an imminent threat.
Sad that we are even having to discuss the weapons readiness posture of CIVILIANS who are volunteering their time to provide additional security at a MILITARY facility of any stripe...
Well, you knew this would be happening. And you can bet it will get ENORMOUS coverage every time.
Somewhere, a liberal is laughing. PLEASE don’t give them reason to do so!
What if the accidental discharge accidentally kills someone? Is it still okay?
Agreed.
My Marine Corps recruiting office was a tiny storefront right next to highly popular Bob’s Big Boy restaurant....brilliant strategy which likely made it easy for the guys to fill the quota - this was 1966.
I was an MP from 98 till 06 , and we always carried condition 2. with our M11 or when I was with CID the M9. this included state side when we pulled airport duty post 9 11. why on earth would someone carry on duty condition 3 is beyond me. should you need your weapon one handed you would be a screwed chicken having to chamber a round. The M11 or the older 1911 are both designed to be carried condition 1.The M11 adds double action for a safe condition 2 carry as well.
Oh shut up. LOL!
“Accidentally” is a poor choice of words. “Negligently” would have been much more accurate and appropriate.
Idiot.
I figured it was a reasonable question, but if you’re going to be pointlessly rude about it then whatever.
Hopefully I’ll never happen to be on a range with you.
Nice succinct job summarizing the core idiocy involved.
LMAO!!! Both my wife and I are laughing, I had the sound pretty high...
The problem is that Hollywood gives most Americans their gun-handling knowledge.

You mean that one can’t take a CZ75, hold it sideways in your hand and accurately mow people down?
You mean that one cowboy (White Hat) on horseback with TWO sixguns ablazing can’t pick off the bad guys (Black Hat) firing at him on the ridge with rifles by pulling the trigger about 50 times each?
Whoda thunk.
I NEVER thought Superman could fly either.
Chris Rock had the ‘right idea’ years ago when he suggested the way to stop drivebys was to charge 500 bucks per bullet.
He said that way the shooter would ID his target and just shoot him, saving a ton of money and innocent people wouldn’t be mowed down with the excess shots as no one would be able to afford it.
“Hopefully Ill never happen to be on a range with you.”
Don’t worry about me. The only accidental discharges I’ve ever been involved in at the range were cops. If you actually shoot or ever go to a range you would know they are the worst.
I’ll repeat my first statement that I would much rather a couple of accidental discharges than wholesale slaughter of another recruitment office.
The public should not be forced to attempt to guard the military. Its insane. The military should be immediately armed from non com on up at every military facility.
By ‘non com’ are you referring to NCOs or all enlisted members in general?
Others should come and replace them.
oh, undoubtedly. This is the sort of thing they do ALL THE TIME and we don't.
For example, why doesn't anyone turn up at Dhimmicrap rallies with signs saying things like "NO LIVES MATTER"?
