Rick Santorum said he didn't like Donald Trump's "verbiage" when he called Mexican immigrants "rapists" in his presidential announcement speech, but said he was raising an important point by bringing up the effect that illegal immigration has on American workers.
"While I don't like the verbiage he's used, I like the fact that he is focused on a very important issue for American workers and particularly, legal immigrants in this country," Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator and presidential candidate said on CBS' "Face the Nation" Sunday.
"People who are coming illegally, obviously, are coming with a bad intent, let's just be honest. They're coming with the clear intent of breaking the law. I don't think we can sugar coat that, but that doesn't mean that everybody who's coming across is a rapist or a murderer or anything else," Santorum said. "I think Donald points to a very important thing, which is we have a serious problem of illegal immigration in this country that is undermining American workers: by flattening out wages and lowering the standard of living for those in the U.S. legally.

Thinking back four years...he might've had a shot at the nomination then if he hadn't started jabbering about the "need to compromise".
Weak, but acceptable.
I give him a 6 for this response.
Dance around that issue, Rick! Dance!
Closest to correct answer thus far. This may help sort the sheep from goats.

Santorum was the only candidate to receive an “A” from NumbersUSA on immigration.

Santorum’s answer describes himself.
Weak.
Of course he and others have had weeks to focus group, stick
their fingers in the wind.
I think the Donald should apologize for saying that “some of the are nice people”.
Correct. Anyone coming across the border illegally is not doing so to become a citizen of the US. Illegal means, specifically, illegal. These people are not, maybe, nice. They are violating the laws of our country by becoming invaders. By the numbers they are an invading force comprised in substantial numbers of the dregs of our southern neighbors.
I might give him a four.
It’s up to real men to remind folks what Trump actually said, rather than advance the “big lie” even further.
Trumps comments were truthful.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
The table below covers only the 30,000+ ILLEGAL aliens who were in ICE custody in 2014 and released pursuant to new policies established by the Obama Administration. Who knows maybe the San Francisco murderer was in that bunch.
Meanwhile there are 100,000s more who were deported.
That still leaves the 100,000s still in federal custody and in local custody for all kinds of crimes.
This is just one example of House Committee hearings -- data are just a small sample of what we are forced to deal with day-in-and-day-out. I guess we're stuck as long as the ruling class families are safe.
The following table provides a breakdown of the types of specific criminal convictions associated with the 30,558 criminal aliens placed in a non-custodial setting in Fiscal Year 2014. Please note that an alien may have more than one criminal conviction. As such, the total number of criminal convictions is greater than the total number of criminal aliens released from ICE custody."

The left is pulling out of their political correctness trick bag “The Dump The Trump Bandwagon”. Using it as a means of shutting down any discussion of this invasion of the US by illegals that’s being promoted by the “Godless democrat in name only party”
Any candidate who jumps on it should be considered “a usual suspect”,closely watched, rounded,up and placed in the circular file corral before primary time.
Good for Santorum he didn’t fall for it.
“Univision also updated potential investors on the outlook for its legal battle with Donald Trump. He is suing the company for $500 million for breach of contract after it abruptly ended its association with the real-estate mogul, citing his recent controversial comments about Mexican immigrants. Univision expressed confidence it will prevail in court, dismissing the lawsuit as legally ridiculous.

Complaint by Donald Trump

Santorum looked at Cruz and finally got a clue. Don’t pile on Trump because he must be doing something right as he is now 1 or 2 in the polls.
Wow, the stats are staggering. I can only imagine what the cost of illegal immigration is to this country when all the different facets of our society that it negatively impacts are considered.
I think the majority of Americans would not mind paying a little more for our produce and letting the rich pay higher wages for their domestic help in order to remove this burden from our country.
Does The Donald have a website where such material can be posted? Maybe we should create one for him.
“Homicide 86”
Isn’t this stat up to 120 dead now?
Just 1/2.
Trying to have it both ways, ehhh Sanatorium?
Yes, perhaps Trump could have been a bit more ‘delicate’ in his wording. But then would the other Republican candidates paid any attention to him if he had done that?
So, I agree with others - lame, but better than nothing, and much better than many other candidates.
