Mystery solved: Why large dinosaurs avoided the tropics for millions of years
FoxNews.com/science ^ | June 17, 2015 | Walt Bonner

New research has revealed why it took more than 30 million years for large Triassic dinosaurs to populate the tropics after they first appeared on Earth, ending a mystery that has kept researchers baffled for decades. Using new geological evidence culled from Ghost Ranch, N.M., researchers from the University of Southampton in the U.K. have found that an extremely unpredictable hot and arid climate due to elevated carbon dioxide levels (four to six times of what they are today) kept large herbivorous dinos at bay until after 200 million years ago.

that was my though also; continental drift over 10 million years can move a plate thousands of mile, enough to rearrange ocean currents and resultant weather over the land masses..

however, the simple explanations are the best; they cause the most panic among the easily impressed.

We have many carbon sinks today that didn’t exist when Pangea was the only land mass. As you rightly say, huge forested areas, shallow seas and high mountain ranges take a lot of CO2 out of the atmosphere today but they were less common 200 mya. The interior of Pangea had little moisture and the currents didn’t flow in the patterns we now have. The largest single “machine” for scrubbing CO2 consists of the combination of the monsoons and the “acid” rain they drop on the Himalayas. That is thought to have reduced global warming enough to bring on the ice ages. Without “global warming” and an appreciable amount of CO2 in the atmosphere we would have a snowball earth again.

Global warming kept dinosaurs away, but, now I’m supposed to be against global warming so that, what - dinosaurs can make a come back?

Variations in solar output cause climate change.

Silence heretic! His Eminence, Pope Albert Gore, Jr. and his Apostles have declared the science settled. Homo Sapiens, the Most Evil Species, are destroying Mother Gaya and must repent for their environmental and capitalistic sins. [/sarc]

I wonder how many people know that the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is less than 1/2 of 1/10 of one percent?

And yet they lose sleep and are willing to accept a lower standard of living to keep it at that level.

continental drift over 10 million years can move a plate thousands of mile

They say the rate is about as fast as our fingernails grow (about 2 in/year). Or 1 mile in ~30,000 years. That's surprisingly fast, considering we're talking about entire continents and tectonic plates.

photo C02 Concentration Atmosphere Chart 01_zpsxtzqfrkx.jpg

Composition of Earth's atmosphere by volume. The lower pie represents the trace gases
that together compose about 0.038% of the atmosphere (0.043% with CO2 at 2014
concentration). The numbers are from a variety of years (mainly 1987, with CO2 and
methane from 2009) and do not represent any single source.--Wikipedia: Atmosphere of Earth

Telling part of the truth is the problem.

Just read this

http://www.energytrendsinsider.com/2014/09/11/another-record-year-for-co2/

It refers to co2 production, not net production. They believe their own lies.

Used to work in that little town, in the Turtle Mountains up near the Canadian border.

There was a craze of statue building across the state, lame-o attempts to pull in tourists, Tommy the Turtle, the giant gorilla outside Mandan, a bison near Jamestown, a huge Holstein cow outside Salem...

.

and in my own hometown Earl Bunyan, Paul's cowboy brother.

He used to hold a big wooden six-shooter and a coil of rope but time and the p.c. police took care of that. Now it's a cane and a branding iron.

Believe it or not a deceased married couple are interred in the rock cairn he stands on...it was their wish to have the statue built and be buried under it.

Was it that they did not go to the warm tropical locations, or they did not find them there.

Go drop a carcass in a jungle, then go back in a year and see whats left. Nothing remains in those places for long.

Unfortunately very few politicians will call BS on climate change. Even those opposed say they object to the other countries not cutting enough etc but never strike at the heart of the matter.

Since they’re only claiming here that the large ones aren’t found there, I assume others are there.

Dinosaurs are big lizards
Lizards are cold blooded and can’t self regulate body temp
Big critters produce more internal heat than small critters

Likelihood: in overall hotter world temps tropical regions were too hot for large cold blooded dinosaurs to fare well so the stayed in climate areas where they were more comfortable.

They probably regulated away all freon and substitutes for use in air conditioners which would have otherwise allowed them to operate in those environments

Dinosaurs aren't lizards. In any case, it is believed by many in the field today that some of them were likely warm blooded, particularly the carnivores.

Seriously? The dinosaurs didnt populate the tropics because of CO2? What a joke. I guess when your job is to sell Globull warming, EVERYTHING is caused by Globull warming.
