Rick Perry: America's Next President Will Not Be a Senator
breitbart ^ | Nov. 9, 2014 | Adelle Nazarian

Posted on 11/09/2014 6:24:59 PM PST by PROCON

LOS ANGELES, California—In an exclusive interview at Breitbart News Network's headquarters, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said President Barack Obama would cement a legacy of being the worst president in American history if he moves forward on executive amnesty.

"I don't think this man wants to go down as the absolute worst president in the United States — although the jury is still out on that," Perry said, adding that if Obama moves forward on executive amnesty "he will be guaranteed that slot. Because the American people will not accept an executive order that basically takes our constitution and throws it out the window. They will not accept that."

Perry, considering a repeat presidential bid in 2016, had just spoken at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Reagan's famous "A Time For Choosing" speech. Among his scalding criticisms of Obama, Perry explained the president's failings as due to his background as a U.S. senator – something that happens to apply to several of his would-be challengers for the GOP presidential nomination.

Not Eric Schmidt, I think you meant Steve Schmidt. Steve Schmidt is the Palin sabotaging former campaign manager for McCain.

With both TEA Party trashing, election stealing, democrat tactic loving Henry Barbour and Palin backstabbing Steve Schmidt on board, there is no way LaRaza Rick can be considered a conservative.

I voted repeatedly for Rick Perry for governor because he was always better than the Democrat alternative. I will vote for him for President if he gets the nomination because he would be better than Hillary or any far left wing whack job that might rise up and take the Democrat nomination away from Hillary.

Perry might make a competent President, certainly more competent than the Marxist community organizer. But we will never know because if Perry gets the nomination he will lose just like Dole, McCain and Romney before him. Moderates pretending to be conservatives always lose.

We can do a bell of a lot better than Perry and we will need to if we are going to take our nation back from the abyss.

3 sitting US senators have been elected President, all were incompetent or worse. Being a chief executive and being a bullish*t artist are different skill sets.

Seems you are unnecessarily using a very biased filter to make your point.

To date, sixteen senators have also served as president of the United States. Three senators, Warren G. Harding, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House.

No, Cruz is not exactly like the guy that was elected in 2008. 1) he really is as smart as Obama pretends to be. His college record is really out there. Robby George thinks the world of him. His legal records is outstanding. He was good enough as a clerk that he was picked to be a pall-bearer at the CJ’s funeral. He made a lot of money as a lawyer. He is well connected through his equally smart and pretty and successful wife. He has argued successful for the Texas before the Supreme Court. That is not executive experience, but again, he is smarter than Obama, and as good a reasoner as Abe Lincoln. He’s a hard worker.Obama is flat out lazy. As President you wouldn’t see Cruz much on the golf course. Now smart does not mean successful. One of the smartest president—and experienced— we ever had was J.Q. Adams, who flopped. But again, not like Obama in so many ways.

I rank Johnson there for close to 70,000 reasons. Also because of his Great Society programs. They are the bane of the U. S. to this day, and sadly beyond...

I think Bush ranks in there with other bumbling presidents, although the melt down under him certainly ranks him a special mention.

Johnson did severe damage to our military, in that we were reluctant to use it for several decades.

This goes beyond the interventionist nation building thing IMO. Everything since was labelled the next Vietnam. Gulf War I went a long way to alleviating that fear, although it didn’t quite materialize into something we would call a war.

It was more like a deployment and a skirmish. Others may disagree with me on that, and I’m not trying to trash anyone’s deployment and service here.

I respect those that participated in that effort.

I certainly would support Cruz, but deep down I think he would do more good as Majority Leader, to keep the POTUS in line.

I think you are right and events seem to be lining up to suggest that may be what he wants as well

He’s got a better chance of being President than he does of being majority leader.

I’m not “fawning” over Ted Cruz.

Being “charismatic” has nothing to do with it either. What counts is his Belief in the Constitution, Limited Government and the Rule of Law.

Don’t ever compare me to “fawning’ Liberals my FRiend.

Not to worry, the messenger is safe. However Perry is probably right. After all “The Best List” ain't exactly running over with best presidents that came directly to the Oval Office from the Senate. I think Obama, Kennedy and Harding are the only three that moved direct to the Presidency from the Senate. For damn sure no BEST on that list.

Problem is, "The Best List" didn't come from the list of Governors either.

Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, Grant, Eisenhower, and the following list did not have the experience of being Governor.

All in all, with all the bad examples of Presidents that were Governors first, it really isn't a factor in whether or not a President will be a good executive.

To date, sixteen senators have also served as president of the United States. Three senators, Warren G. Harding, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House.

Scott Walker as Secretary of Labor is a fantastic idea. Rick Perry can be Secretary of Energy.

I would not even be opposed to bringing Romney back as Secretary of Commerce. He was a,successful businessman. We need some people back in government that have actually started a business, hired employees and had to dig into his own pocket to make payroll a,few times. He was a terrible choice for President but he could be an able lieutenant.

The point is that we have really some good choices to pick from for the top and they will have many good choices to pick from for everything from generals to ground troops. All the Democrats have to choose from are old hippies, pointy headed academics and young radicals that have never held down a job let alone created one.

I was thinking of Vietnam and the great society too.

Any confidence we gained through Gulf War I was attenuated by Somalia.

It could be argued that the present disasters in Iraq and Afghanistan are on Bush. He left the job unfinished. Everyone knew 0 would mess it up so it should have been top priority to cobble together victories or otherwise safeguard our gains before he took office. Had Bush not been unbelievably, dangerously simplistic, milquetoast, and mainstream Obama would have nothing to screw up: that puts him among the worst.

But LBJ’s racist views on human potential have caused more death and misery than any war, and it’s likely to never end.

On the votes as compared to policy enacted, he does seem to be to the right of Perry. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t gotten too cozy with the establishment. Just look at Ron Johnson

You're correct. I was having trouble remembering the cretin's name when I was posting. Thanks.

I knew that Perry had stabbed Sarah in the back when he announced his late entry into the 2012 presidential race. I believe she was on the verge of making her own announcement when Perry pulled that cutthroat move.

He had promised the people of Texas that he wouldn't seek higher office if we gave him one more term as Governor - then he turned around and broke that promise. I'm sure Sarah was blindsided by it, and that it figured greatly in her decision not to run.

And now Perry hires the same RINO creep who went all-out to destroy Sarah's good name after McCain's loss. It's bad juju, and it's all connected, which is why Perry couldn't get my vote if he held a knife to my throat.

obvious competence might not be enough in our celebrity-obsessed society.

It hasn't been, since the time of the Nixon-Kennedy debates in 1960.

Anyone who hopes to win the White House has got to have high marks on a laundry list of attributes - number one of which, is the ability to connect with the public in a charismatic way.

If a presidential hopeful doesn't have that, they may as well stay put in the office where they're doing well.

“Mine too, but there is a large FReeper contingent who want a conservative with 110% conservative values, ain’t going to happen...”

I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I think you’re wrong. The litmus test isn’t pure conservative.

I can go along with someone who believes 80% of what I believe and disagrees 20%. Heck I can even understand that candidate working against my interest in that 20% in which we disagree.

The problem is the 80%. Don’t tell me that you’re with me 80% of the time and then stab me in the back on the parts where we supposedly agree.

Immigration.
Pro-family values.
Obamacare.
Budget/Debt.

These are the big 80% issues where we are being stabbed in the back.

Don’t tell me that you are conservative on these issues and then undermine conservative viewpoints once elected.

If you’re against the illegal invasion to get elected, the fight against it once elected.

If you’re as against Obamacare as your base, then don’t vote to fund it.

Don’t tell me you’re against gay marriage to get elected and then say, “Sorry, the court took it out of our hands.” Fight for what we believe.

Don’t tell us you are for less deficit and debt but it’s a damned dirty shame you had no choice but to vote for the CR and debt limit increase (and the bailout).

Don’t tell me you support the Constitution, but the President is the President. He can ignore the Constitution and we can’t stop him. Man up!

No.

Conservatives aren’t purer than thou.

We are just tired of the duplicity in the areas where our candidates say they agree with us (because they wouldn’t get elected otherwise).

Disagree with me 20% of the time. But. On the 80%: dammit! I want a fighter!

Sounds like he’s finally figuring things out. I agree with him - America’s Next President will be a President, not a Senator, at least that what the Constitution says too.
