As North Carolina lawmakers debated a proposal to prevent charter schools from discriminating against applicants based on sexual orientation, one representative suggested Tuesday that adult sexual attraction to children is a sexual orientation like homosexuality.
The amendment was tabled by Republicans, preventing a vote on it. But during the debate, Republican Rep. Paul Stam, R-Wake, said pedophilia, masochism and other illegal sexual practices are sexual orientations like homosexuality and he questioned the role adults who are sexually attracted to children might have in schools.
Several lawmakers called those comments offensive. After the House session, Twitter lit up with criticism of Stam's comments from other lawmakers and left-leaning advocacy groups.

Actually, according to the Random House Dictionary, pedophilia doesn't involve any actions at all.

By the way, because some people have a hard time with reading comprehension and tend to read things into passages that weren't actually written (and no, servo, I'm not saying that you are "some people"), let me spell it out: I am not suggesting for a second that pedophilia or pedophiles be a protected class. Nor am I suggesting that homosexuality or homosexuals be a protected class.
It’s obvious to you, and me, but it’s obvious that homosexual practices are against nature. It’s also obvious that a boy is not a girl and a girl is not a boy. Have you noticed this isn’t so obvious to the people who run our institutions? In Belgium very young kids are able to choose to be euthanized. Could you imagine just 10 years ago that the MSM would refer to a 4 yo boy as a “she” in a story about which bathroom he gets to use at school? I think the pedophilia movement is about to smack us in the face. It’s probably closer than we think.

The article is very badly presented. The title is terribly misleading and you don’t find out until the 5th paragraph the truth of this. Stram was NOT defending pedophilia; NOT actually saying it was the same as homosexuality.
Stram handed out a sheet with 30 different “sexual orientations” on it. The proposed amendment was to not allow discrimination based on “sexual orientation”.
Rep Stam pointed out that using these words would mean pedophiles (and other pervs) would be allowed to teach at the non-discriminatory charter school. he was maiking a very salient point.
‘In response, Stam handed out a sheet listing what he said were 30 different sexual orientations. He argued the definition of sexual orientation must be narrowed, otherwise it would include masochism, sadism, pedophilia, along with homosexuality and heterosexuality.
“Sexual orientation is not defined anywhere,” he said. “Many, many sexual orientations are not the ones you want to have teaching kids in schools,” he said. “You may think you know what you mean by this but you don’t.”
