A new study concludes that humans mated with Neanderthals 50,000 to 80,000 years ago, leaving traces of the Neanderthal genome in some modern humans.
This picture shows the reconstruction of a Neanderthal woman at the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann, Germany, on March 20, 2009. A new study is offering insights into how early humans and Neanderthals were similar and different.

Those brow ridges and the sloping forehead are sure giveaways, as is the hirsute body.
Re: “Neanderthal-derived genes failed to show up in the African genomes.”
Uh, oh.
Does this mean I have to plead guilty to “White Privilege?”
I know that lady. She was one of our neighbors while I was growing up.
Some folks are WAY more than “4%” Neanderthal.
Quatermass and the Pit (1967)...I sure hope they don’t also find we’re part insectoid/alien and the two genetic codes (Neanderthal/human vs insectoid/alien) don’t end up fighting for planet dominance.
Seriously, that picture needs the caption “This guy can punch your lights out”.
But I am confused by this article.
Nevertheless, I still possess the 100% white woman card which my gay brother bestowed upon me, back in the day when humor was still possible.
I intend to play it as needed.
WWLD? (What would Laz Do)?
Nuthin new here. Peoples been sayin this about me for years. And usually the number was a lot higher than 4%!
“Looks like Eleanor Clift.”
On a bad hair day.
I'm going to guess that a young Neanderthal women would be no worse looking than what many men take home from the bar after it closes.
LOL!
would Laz hit it?

Do these 4% suffer from diabetes?

Nope, still looks like John Travolta
Ping.
Even 50,000 years ago there would be less than 1% DNA trace. This author is just ignorant. My Great Great Grandmother only gives me 12.5% of her genes so my 4th great grandparents would give me about 3%. That is a long way form 50-80 thousand years ago.
I thought I read that first humans were in Africa so this doesn’t follow....
Recent comparisons of chimp and human DNA have backed off due to better sequencing to at most 98.5% and at the least 96%, plus, you have the difference of 23 chromosome pairs in humans and 24 in chimps. Neanderthal is a lot closer to us at 99.7 to 99.8 %.
“Some humans are 4 percent Neanderthal”
I’m sure that fluctuates a little. I know for a fact that
some are 25 maybe 35%. Take congress for example......
