A federal judge in New York has ruled that the National Security Agency's massive collection of American citizens' telephone records is both legal and useful.
U.S. District Judge William Pauley wrote in his opinion issued Friday that the program "represents the government's counter-punch" to eliminate al-Qaeda's terror network.
Pauley raised the specter of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and how the phone data-collection system could have helped investigators connect the dots before the attacks occurred.
Pauley's decision appears to conflict with a ruling earlier this month by U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon, who granted a preliminary injunction against the collecting of phone records of two men who had challenged the program.
He said that the program likely violates the U.S. Constitution's ban on unreasonable search.

I’m assuming Rapscallion made a mistake. After reading many of his posts elsewhere on FR I have to think it’s a typo. If not I surely would like the reasoning behind “Good decision.”
Yeah our Constitution is gone...
But we have Obama. :)
It will go to the SCOTUS where roberts will vote however his blackmailer tells him to vote.
So. A little bit of unconstitutional spying on American citizens is still verboten but it’s just fine with this brilliant judge if the regime violates every American ‘s fundamental. rights all at once? Sort of like judicially endorsing gang rapes.
Yeah, I read them too. I got the same idea about him as well. I know I made a few mistakes too, that convey nearly the opposite message I wanted to make.
“what should have happened was that there should have been a concerted effort to block non citizens from Islamic countries from entering and/or giving them citizenship. They are a stealth bunch who would lie to their own mothers to get in and eventually gain citizenship. nothing in our constitution says we have to let anyone in as citizens. the protections are there for those already citizens”
I have had the same idea. Of course, I wouldn’t have gone about it blatantly (b/c of friction it might cause with other nations in the world. But require so much red tape and screening that the process takes years and years.
“This judge looks like he escaped from the funny farm.”
There is a certain resemblance to Taber (Christopher Lloyd), don’t you think?
Of course its illegal. It is a textbook example of an illegal search and thus violates one of the most important protections of the U.S. Constitution.
Buffoons can rule ANYTHING. What makes this leftist “judge” think the NSA program has any relationship to the battle with Al-Qaeda? Rather than Barack Al-Obama’s desire to CONTROL all Americans?
it’s good HUH,
“If we killed all Muslims found in the country that might prevent a terrorist attack too. Does that make it legal?”
Good point! How about if we compromise and DEPORT them all?
Yea another judge looking to move up by giving decisions his socialist masters want
“rules NSA phone surveillance is legal, plain talk wrote:
U.S. District Judge William Pauley wrote in his opinion issued Friday that the program “represents the government’s counter-punch” to eliminate al-Qaeda’s terror network.
Laudable goal but completely irrelevant here. The issue is how does the policy jive or not with the Constitution.”
Agreed!
Bingo!!! You win the new Corvette.
just said the same, we have judges which give decisions not based on laws but base them on whether they can move up to a higher court.
and the problem is that we have a family who moved down here from NY state and they are nothing but freeloaders on welfare, claim disability, call the cops if anyone looks at them while he walks about in his underpants showing his fat boobs off and then plays the race card.
Sadly for every decent NY person moving out there are also NY scum bags looking to take their so called freebies in their new states
That's only if the Constitution is a living, breathing, rappin' document ....
Well hell, it is New York after all.
