Ryan knew about, ignored Military Pension Cuts 'Mistake' in Budget Deal
Breitbart Big Government ^ | 12-20-13 | Matthew Boyle

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan admitted on Wednesday evening that cutting the pensions of disabled and injured U.S. military veterans as part of the deal he forged with Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) was a mistake.

Apparently, Ryan knew the mistake was in the legislation for at least two full days before the House vote. He has not, however, provided any explanation for why he did nothing to fix it.

While interviewing him on Kudlow Report on CNBC Wednesday evening, Larry Kudlow asked Ryan if he agreed with a statement Murray made on the Senate floor earlier in the day. "A provision included in this deal that mistakenly included disabled retirees and survivors for changes in the pension growth will be addressed in short order following passage of this bill," Murray said.

When Kudlow asked Ryan if he “agreed” with Murray’s assessment that the matter was a mistake, Ryan replied that he did:

That will be solved with the technical correction that will pass when Congress comes back into session. We wanted to make sure that we kept military pension retirement better than their civilian counterparts. Civilians who retired before 62 get no cost of living update at all. These military retirees will still get a cost of living update. Then they get the benefits recalculated when they turn 62, to make sure that they got back what they had lost.

Ryan really damaged his stock in 2013. He decided to do the bidding for Boehner and company rather than pushing them for a better strategy. I think Ryan is all around a good ally, but now seriously hurting himself and the country with is capitulation. He’s made a number of suspect votes overtime on big issues like TARP, but I can understand the urgency of those situations, especially when his own party is in the White House and the Fed Chair and Sec of Treasury provide the options they did. That said, it’s all adding up to a big problem right now, and my trust is eroded significantly.

Representative Ryan: “Then they get the benefits recalculated when they turn 62, to make sure that they got back what they had lost.”

No. They don’t get back what they lost. The lost retired pay is gone for good. What they get back is a cost of living adjustment so their pension payments are back to what they would have been, but the pay that was lost in the interim is gone.

No explanation would suffice. It’s the soldier that’s given you and Murry the freedom to acquire wealth and power.

With few exceptions, the whole lot of you are reprehensible.

This deal is great. It has taken another RINO out of the running.

A necessary part of being part of the establishment is to lie and then deny and then lie.

Looks like Ryan has the script perfected.

I was not excited at all when Romney picked him. To me he seems like the kid who’s always telling the teacher on others.

I'm seeing all sorts of generic reactions using the term "reduction". Could someone please help me out with this.

Does the plan change the traditional retirement formulary (20 years at 50% base pay)? Does it advocate reducing existing retirement benefits? Does it advocate reducing future retiree benefits? Does it reduce COLA payments for all retirees?

Ryan never served in military so it is not surprising that he cuts military benefits to make a budget happen.

The B.S. about fixing it later is not a given, however, this provision will be enacted in 2015 as a given.

I find it surprising that America’s opinion of veterans are extremely high, and as I understand it, typically the highest and respected of all occupations in the nation, and this bean-counter president wanna-be from a Congress who’s approval ratings are at an all-time low, wants to hurt them. Veterans called upon, without whining, to fight our wars, and then get this in return.

The insanity in Congress continues, along with he conservative talking heads yap yap yaping, and no one does anything except crows to a handpicked crowd to get more campaign donations: “See? See? Look what I did!”

The States need to bunker down and weather this nightmare.

Where is there a George Washington or a Ronald Reagan that actually inspires a nation?

The rest of these delusional, Cult-of-Personalities are just Student Council reps. on steroids.

It was part of the New Democrat method of budgeting known as The Compromise Method. With this method, all the financial information normally used to develop a budget like income and expenses are thrown out the window and Democrat politicians ask their base who they dislike and want hurt.
