Dental insurance is dumb. (1) By the time one pays for the insurance and deductibles and you subtract the discount cash customers get you don't save very much. (2) If a treatment is too expensive and a person is paying their own bill, they just might decide to get that dental gold mine (for the dentist) extracted.

Very true. I’ve never had dental insurance. I go for check ups twice a year, pay a reasonable fee in cash for the visit and anything extra that is needed. I’ve never gasped at the bill.

They can only fine you if you get a refund - and I won’t.

Actually, the fine can come out of the refund, OR, if you happen to owe the IRS at any time for the same tax year as a result of underpayment, etc., the fine will be commingled and the entire amount will be due. Explained here earlier by a CPA type.
