For many years, those of us in the Arctic have been fighting the wood stove ban. The use of PM2.5 particulates has been an issue pursued by local agencies as a way to swipe at those who choose to live beyond the borders of traditional civilization. That attack has now extended to the rest of the United States.
In a stunning move, the Environmental Protection Agency decided to ban most of the operational wood stoves in the U.S.
In those places where there is you, God, and nature, the wood stove has represented that one thing that can sustain. Going after local PM2.5 particulates has been one of many methods to attack those who choose to live independent of government. As Off Grid and American Prepper survival report reveals:
The EPAs new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called Burn Wise to try to sway public opinion.
On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scrapped and cannot be resold.

Next all the fireplaces in the homes.
Obama already on that path.
He is attacking coal burning power plants.
Guess no one has told him hat the main power sources are for those states east of the Mississippi. COAL
They work fine, I have two of them, actually much better that the the less efficient stoves they replaced. More heat per cord of wood and they burn more cleanly, less creosote in the chimney which decreases the risk of burning down the house.
I have one with the catalytic converter, it is nice because the cat is set up so you can cook off it. My concern was how long it would last but it is still working well after 6 or 7 years. The other one is a non catalytic design, there is no set up for cooking but I figured if I would have at least one stove working if I ever had catalyst issues.
Between the two, I’ve burned about 60 cords and both seem to be functioning like new.
I was frustrated because I couldn’t replace my old stoves with non EPA versions but the new stoves are actually a better design.
It is a little weird that once the stoves are warmed up, you can’t tell if a fire is going by looking at the chimney.
And when will they come after my fireplace?
I believe that's correct, but anyone who attempts to do so at my home will be required to obtain a court order, and until such time will be denied access, as enforced by the business end of a 12-gauge shotgun.
How much heat would a burning EPA headquarters throw off, and how could we harness it?
If you and I were to agree that I was going to purchase your old wood-stove....
How would they be able enforce this...that 1) you can’t sell it to me...2) that I cannot begin using it once I have taken possession.
Well hell. If it’ll be illegal to burn wood, and ya do it anyway, ya may as well run a moonshine still as well.
If an EPA burns in washington and there is no one there, the heat can not be felt
The way it is done presently is to run an ethanol distillery. The product in the Mason jars is labeled fuel
“Living abroad seems to be your major accomplishment in life. Correct me if I’m wrong.”

Yes, I will, as you seem to be quite confused.
I spent my entire life in Tennessee, where I loved the four seasons, but does that mean that I should be required to die there?
After selling my business and starting retirement, I decided to experience other parts of the world. Is that a crime?
Well, in the old Soviet Union it was.
Are you saying that seeing the world in my senior years is treason?
After selling my business, I first started my new life exploring central Europe, where I saw the scars of Communism.
You do know that they did not let people leave, don’t you?
On the bank of the Danube in Slovakia, there is a monument to those that were shot as they tried to swim over to Austria. Would you like to shoot me? You would like to forbid foreign living to US citizens?
NO, living abroad is far from my accomplishments in life.
As a native born American, and decedent of Uncle Sam (war of 1812)I am quite satisfied with living the American dream, which is a life of freedom, starting and operating several businesses.
That does not, however, mean that I can not travel and see other countries, and explore a new life in my years of retirement.
Slick Willie would say “I feel your pain”, but no, I do not feel it. Make your own life, and learn to accept the decisions of others on how they make theirs.
There is a small band of “dogs in a manger” on here that hate my guts. Go and join them. They can use some help, as they are quite so childish with their expletives.
Well, Drudge has a headline that says EPA finds only 6.6% of staff are “nonessential”....
Kudos for your obviously superior financial planning. It’s nice to be able to choose as you are doing.
“I am not worried. I now live in the tropics. Wood burning is only to cook fish on the beach”
Since you have now moved to the Phillipines or wherever you don’t need to be concerned about America anymore. Why bother to distract yourself from your new and improved place of residence?
“Kudos for your obviously superior financial planning.”

hahaha...I can assure you that my life style is NOT a result
of great financial planning. In Europe, I did work as a private tutor. In the Philippines, I live on a very small social security pension.

What an absurd statement. I am an American that loves his country, even thought I hate what it is becoming.
Why else do you think I have been on FR for the last 15 years?
Not to show any support for the move...
The article overstates what happened. Insofar as the EPA is empowered to regulate pollution, they did tighten the emission standards on wood stoves. They did NOT ban wood stoves per se, just required better emissions performance and issued a long list of stoves known to comply.
Insofar as you can get a high efficiency stove, you should. Basic individual environmental stewardship, which is a conservative value.
Punishing those who can’t/don’t, yeah I’ve got a problem with that.
Let’s stick to facts and address what the EPA actually did. Overwrought hyperbole is not helpful.
I guess the EPA doesn't know about “Rocket” stoves yet. They are used for camping and for emergencies. They burn any organic material and burn hot to burn that fuel into a small amount of ashes. I would say if you want a Rocket stove to get one now before the EPA knows about them and bans them.
In my many years of existence, if one wanted to burn something, one did. Now, you are in trouble if you strike a match without a permit and it's the right kind of match, if they even have approved a certain match.
Regular kitchen strike anywhere matches are no longer sold. I stored strike anywhere matches before they were “outlawed”. Had no idea they would be banned later. I still have that sealed bucket of boxes of strike anywhere matches.
I'm waiting to find out how much oxygen the EPA will allow me to breathe.
Will the EPA clean out the forests so their will be no more smoke put in the air by lightning strikes and arsonists?
One forest fire can put out more smoke than all the backwoods people combined.
Oh by the way, I have read that carbon and dust in the atmosphere is what water vapor condenses around to make rain.
I used to have a book on how to build your own wood stove, everything from 55 gal steel barrels, outboard motor gas tanks, welded sheet steel, I’ve even made them from 1/4 inch steel plate, door latch hinges and all can be welded in a home shop.
So how can the EPA stop the building of a wood stove!
