“The EPA apparently does not care about grid-down scenarios, in which woodstoves would come in handy in the wintertime.”

I guess the EPA doesn't know about “Rocket” stoves yet. They are used for camping and for emergencies. They burn any organic material and burn hot to burn that fuel into a small amount of ashes. I would say if you want a Rocket stove to get one now before the EPA knows about them and bans them.

In my many years of existence, if one wanted to burn something, one did. Now, you are in trouble if you strike a match without a permit and it's the right kind of match, if they even have approved a certain match.

Regular kitchen strike anywhere matches are no longer sold. I stored strike anywhere matches before they were “outlawed”. Had no idea they would be banned later. I still have that sealed bucket of boxes of strike anywhere matches.

I'm waiting to find out how much oxygen the EPA will allow me to breathe.

I also have strike anywhere matches. They are great when first opened, the the local humidity seems to kill them.

They aren’t outlawed and you can still buy them.

The only reason you don’t see the ‘strike-anywhere’ matches in stores anymore is because of hasmat regulations and shipping restrictions like they put on gunpowder used for reloading ammo.

There is a big fee that must be paid to have them shipped.

A box of kitchen matches will cost you about $15 with the shipping.

Note...this ad says it contains lots of boxes of matches, but the total match count is about the same as one reg old box of kitchen matches.

IMHO this is more about making life more difficult for people who live off the government reservations.

Its just another small turn of the screw but eventually laws and prohibitions will make it impossible for people to survive in small towns or remote homesteads.

Sooner or later it will end up with the feds using satellites to identify plumes of smoke or heat sources to locate the last "antisocial" types so they can be relocated to approved areas.

Sounds far fetched, but who ever though a child would be kicked out of school for pointing a finger?

Who ever dreamed that it would be more socially (and legally) acceptable to brag about being a practicing homosexual than to admit you smoked cigarettes?
