California rang in the New Year by placing certain truck engines, trailers, tires and even entire vehicles on its environmental out list requiring motor carriers to spend tens of thousands of dollars on new equipment that may never meet the state's ambitious objectives.
The new rules apply to trucks registered in other states and even other countries.
The state is forcing certain trucking companies and operators to make investments that are going to add cost with no return with regard to fuel efficiency, and therefore no impact on their desired policy operative, said Steve Laskowski, senior vice president of the Canadian Trucking Alliance.

Ya can’t fix stupid but ya can neuter it.
This is its intended effect.
It's one reason so many multinationals support this eco-terrorism. They know their competitors can't absorb the costs.
The closer you get to the drain, the faster the turds swirl..................
LOL
So much for these guys..............
I dropped CA from my operating authority.
Won’t miss it.
The proper business answer is to refuse to ship freight there.
Once it becomes uneconomical to ship freight to Californistan, businesses will no longer do business there.
Of course, someone could “suggest” that California “invest” in a bunch of battery powered vehicle that would be tasked with picking up the freight at the border and delivering it.
I’m “sure” this will “work” out well for Caifornistan.
Trucks from Mexico are exempt ...
I love it when I buy a common product here and see this warning on it.
“WARNING! This product contains an ingredient known in the state of California to cause cancer.”
Perhaps it should be changed to read ...
“WARNING: This product contains an ingredient that causes cancer ONLY in the state of California!”
A few years later they added the mandate for vapor recovery pumps. Rinse. Lather. Repeat.
This problem can be fixed quickly. Food is delivered by trucks. Stop all trucks, California dies from no food, problem solved. No need for trucks there anymore.
The Peoples’ Revolutionary Soviet of Alta California strikes again. Who they not pass legislation reducing friction and gravity within the Soviet’s borders?
Trucking companies should just not do business in California.
That's funny. Soon, trucks from Canada will be exempt too.
My prediction? This law will "evolve" as all bad legislation does. At some point, it will have to exempt out of state trucks and trailers that are interstate carriers. So then it would only apply to companies based in CA. They won't see the bullet in the barrel that they are looking into and CA will completely decimate it's own trucking industry (the perverbial shooting thyself in the head).
You will see out of state carriers start to truck to and from the ports from out of state. Companies will then start avoiding the CA shipping ports and opt for Oregon and Washington or even East Coast and Mexico.
Our Fed sees no conflict with the Constitutions interstate commerce clause here even though this is one of the few reasons that a Federal Government was argued for by the Federalists.
Have you tried "Two Men and a Chevy Volt"?
The State of California deserves all the grousing, and slander one can toss in their direction, but this action has been well publicized throughout the industry, NOT necessarily the MSM, but the trucking industry through mailers, and other means, and every mom & pop trucker has been aware, therefore is aware of this. It’s also been postponed a couple of times.
I know the trucking company my wife works for the past 35 years is well aware of it, and has decried the postponements only due the fear of their forced investments being all of a sudden for naught.
It’s total BS IMO. Heresy, or science? The Left has fairies in their trees.
Sure, and while they are at it they should legislate how long the sun stays up as well as infinite electricity for all.
Works the other way also. How do California businesses get their products shipped to the rest of the country?
Then there is the fresh food shipped from CA. Hmm...
Last one out of CA, can leave the light on. We don’t care.
