The Democratic National Conventions final night included a stirring tribute to Americas veterans from a retired naval four-star admiral, complete with a backdrop of jets flying over a row of proud warships. But convention organizers may soon regret it.
Norman Polmar, author of The Naval Institute Guide to the Soviet Navy and other military handbooks, told the Navy Times on Tuesday that the ships were Russian vessels.
The ships are definitely Russian, Polmar told the military newspaper. Theres no question of that in my mind. The ships depicted in the Democrats backdrop had radar designs that the U.S. fleet doesnt use.
Other experts said the image displayed on giant video screens inside the Times Warner Cable Arena was a Photoshopped composite showing U.S. trainer jets, F-5s, flying over the Russian ships.
Retired Adm. John Nathman, who formerly commanded Fleet Forces Command, honored veterans Thursday night during the hour before President Obama accepted his partys nomination for a second four-year term in the White House.
Rob Barker, a former naval electronics warfare technician, first identified the ships as Russian in design, and was able to identify the ship in the foreground as a specific vessel the Kara-class cruiser Kerch.
I was kind of in shock, Barker told the Navy Times. An immediate apology [from the DNC] would be very nice. Maybe acknowledge the fact that yes, they screwed up.
Polmar also recognized a blue X on one of the ships flags, a Russian navy symbol fashioned after a St. Andrews Cross.
A.D. Baker III, a retired analyst who worked in the Office of Naval Intelligence, told Navy Times that the four ships, at the time the photo was taken, constituted the entire major surface combatant component of the [Russian] Black Sea Fleet.
He said the photo was likely at least six years old.
Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic & Billy.

>>> “......a contract that requires the ships be run on algae fuel at $50/gallon.” <<<<
We could laugh at Soviet sailors, vice U.S. sailors, when they place huge vats of ALGAE on deck and the engineers take buckets of that slimy green crap and pour it into 4-inch fill-pipes leading to the fuel tanks.
On the positive side, for the sailors, they may find some lake trout tangled in the algae. ~ POOF ~ fish for dinner.
ABSOLUTELY NOT a ‘mistake’.
Some group of their organizers put this together chortling in the back room about how they were duping the American people watching the convention.
Very similar to the ‘Nam POWs getting photographed and displaying the middle finger while giving a statement against the US that their captors demanded. Similar situation, but opposite ideology in play.
This is the DNC giving America a lovely statement but meanwhile in the background giving those “in the know” the middle finger signal that they feel coerced in doing so.
Subliminal message — bet the Russians will get a hoot out of this, (was it a blunder)?
This Regime is either so incompetent as to defy the imagination or so criminal as to be overdue for long incarceration.
No fallout for the Dems though, here in the new Police State of the ObabaNation.
It’s a housing for a towed sonar array.

What an incredible insult to every US Navy/Marine vet in our history and to those now serving in our Navy.
I can’t post my real feelings about these scum bags.

Oztrich Boy laughs at A.D. Baker III, a retired analyst who worked in the Office of Naval Intelligence.
In a few minutes, with just the help of Google, I found another picture of the rear three ships, and identified them. (General configuration of each matches the DNC image)
Ships in DNC photo are, from lead ship:
Unidentified Krivak frigate
Frigate Neustrashimy
Destroyer Smetlivy
Cruiser Kerch
Now the Neustrashimy was built at Kalingrad on the Baltic and only transfered to the Black Sea Fleet after Indian Ocean anti-piracy patrol in late 2008.
So the picture is less than 4 years old.
all military is the same to these communists. There is no difference.
Those on stage veterns should feel humiliated and dishonored.

Bump
They're thanking the Russian Navy!
