Nobody has a lock on predicting the future, especially your humble author. There are certain things and certain events I expected, that did not materialize (yet).
After the Occupy Wall Street protests last year, I fully expected a mass mobilization -- much larger this time -- of the same movement. I was sure they would be co-opted by the Marxists and Obama (but, I repeat myself). I thought the movement would be made more violent, on purpose, to give Obama a chance to either show leadership by taking them down, or to discourage voting in November, or even possibly to declare a national emergency and rule by diktat.
This doesn't seem to be materializing. It may still come to pass, but at this stage, it won't have as much time to make a large impact. I was wrong.
I also thought Donald Trump was a mole, saying things that would appeal to conservatives. The Democrats would then run him as a third-party, in the fashion of Ross Perot, to siphon off conservative votes and deliver the Presidency to Obama for the terminal second term.
It's too late for Donald to mount a meaningful run, yet he's still going out on network news and political shows, and taking Obama to task for his absurd and outright-Marxist positions and comments. I was wrong.
I won't even go into the debacle of the Obamacare Supreme Court decision, except to remark I was completely, utterly wrong.
Now that I have established my credentials, this is how I see the political season unfolding:
1) I expect Obama to start a war with Syria or Iran, and time it so that the historical peak of Presidential popularity overlaps perfectly with the vote in November.
2) Should Obama lose, I expect he will so misuse the Presidential Pardon, that there will be a hue and cry for it to be limited. Obama could even go as far as pardoning every felon in America, just to cause problems and chaos.
3) Should Obama win, I expect that there will be no more elections, for any position whatsoever, within one to two years. He will overthrow the system.
One reason is that I broke a self-imposed rule of editorializing: Don't mention yourself. Since this was an article that was addressing, mostly, the predictions in which it seems I was proven wrong, though, I thought it necessary to violate that rule.
A second reason is that I don't have hyperlinks and footnotes, and I like to have factual backing to my editorials.
And, of course, the third reason: This editorial sucks. ;)
I think you’re dead right about #2.
Lots of misses there Laz. But, to your credit, you are always right on target when it comes to Hitting It. Stay with what you know. With what you do best.
(Just kidding. I like these editorials.)
I’m still not 100% convinced that there will be an election in November.
I was wrong about a few things too. But on a lot of them I think I am merely early.
I still don’t expect Obama to finish his term. I think it will be because of a personal meltdown.
And remember, the year Babe Ruth hit the most home runs is also the year he struck out the most.
Finally: It is already clear the “doom and gloomers” were right about the economy (I know your’s is not about the economy, per-se), but it is not seen that way because people are very adaptive. What WAS considered a “doom and gloom” prediction a few years ago is now simply the new normal. And since we don’t have Mad Max and his buddies riding around in armored beater cars, people don’t see it as “doom and gloom” any more.
And many of the dire predictions regarding the next couple of years will come true, but again, if people can still eat and a fair number of them have jobs, it will just be the new normal. It’s how people living in the soviet bloc saw life in the 50’s through 70’s. Sadly, we may be in for the same pretty soon.
Re #3: FWIW, I’m not asking for my two minutes back.
Yup, Obama’s very own Mariel boatlift, empty out all the prisons and mental institutions.
I think the door is still open for violence in the streets leading up to the election. The class warfare rhetoric will be the agent used to foment the unrest.
Wag the dog (war) still a real possibility as well.
Thanks. However negatively it effected the article, I felt it necessary to own up to my failed predicitons.
You are too kind. It sucks as hard as [porn reference redacted].
I stand by this prediction.
However, I firmly believe that if Obama loses, he will declare the election null and void and appoint himself grand exalted poobah, president for life or some such. As we have seen, he has used the executive order way beyond what it was intended, and neither Congress nor the courts have done anything to stop him. So who or what will stop Obama from making himself a dictator?
A president cannot pardon criminals convicted for state crimes.........
IMHO:
1. You over-estimate the competence of the PTBs.
2. You under-estimate how much of what goes on is reactionary chaos.
I believe some want us to believe they control all these puppet strings when in reality, they are as much riding the wave of chaos as the rest of us. A lot of stories are floated on plans and schemes to keep people feeling someone’s ‘got this’, both good and bad. Some people need the reassurance that someone is in control. Others need to be controlled by fear by making them think that those in control are far more powerful than they are (thus the magnitude of conspiracy theories).
The reality is everything is much closer to chaos and most can’t think beyond checkers level of planning.
A lot of people blew the call on PPACA (me included). In the future, I suspect that that decision will be held in the same regard as Dred Scott.
Secret Service agents. Capitol police. The military.
I don't expect your scenario to even be attempted.
