FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
MUSIC NIGHT To keep you all in the mood for the music thread Fabulous FRiday presents THE FOUR TOPS
The Four Tops ~ an American vocal quartet, whose repertoire has included doo-wop, jazz, soul music, R&B, disco, adult contemporary, hard rock, and showtunes. Lead singer Levi Stubbs (born Levi Stubbles, a cousin of Jackie Wilson and brother of The Falcons' Joe Stubbs), groupmates Abdul "Duke" Fakir, Renaldo "Obie" Benson and Lawrence Payton The four remained together from 1953 until 1997 without a single change in personnel. A change of line-up was finally forced upon the group when Lawrence Payton died on June 20, 1997.

A Few Hits
"I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" "Reach Out I'll Be There" "Standing in the Shadows of Love" "Bernadette" "Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)"
TRIVIA In December 1988, The Tops had been scheduled to board Pan Am Flight 103 to return to the U.S. for Christmas after completing their European tour. However, they were late getting out of a recording session and overslept, causing them to miss the ill-fated flight which crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland, after a terrorist bomb was detonated onboard.
The Four Tops sang the National Anthem before the start of game 5 for the 2011 ALCS between the Texas Rangers & Detroit Tigers on October 13, 2011 in Detroit, MI. When singing the last line of "The Star Spangled Banner", "...and the home of the brave", they quickly sang the words "Ain't No country Like the One I Got", before singing the last word, "brave".
A few Awards Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1990) Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1999) Hollywood Walk Of Fame (1997) Grammy Hall Of Fame (Reach Out I'll Be There-1998) Billboard Magazine Top 100 Artists of All Time(#77) 100 Greatest Artists of All Time (#79-Rolling Stone Magazine)

Come on in and dig some Motown sounds.
Remember, the Canteen is a family friendly place. We welcome the military, our allies, and their families. Continued prayers for the success and completion of your mission. Prayers for your safe return home.

Well, I am working *a* race. More precisely, 14 races (six race groups, four of which each get two and two who get three). Plus a few qualifying sessions. :) I’m actually chief of the flagging crew for Saturday and Sunday, but with the roster I have for this weekend I’m pretty sure I’ll be on a corner.

G’Day, Janey...((HUGS))...cute kitty, and lucky! Thanks to the NSWPD for the rescue.

Stop!
July 6, 2012
Life is a busy enterprise. It seems there are always more things to do, places to go, and people to meet. And while none of us would want a life without meaningful things to do, the fast pace threatens to rob us of the quietness that we need.
When were driving a car, stop signs and other signs warning us to slow down are reminders that to be safe we cant have our foot on the accelerator all the time. We need those kinds of reminders in all aspects of our lives.
The psalmist clearly knew the importance of times of calm and quiet. God Himself rested on the seventh day. And with more messages to preach and more people to heal, Jesus went apart from the crowds and rested a while (Matt. 14:13; Mark 6:31). He knew it wasnt wise to accelerate through life with our gas gauge registering on weary all the time.
When was the last time you could echo the psalmists words, I have calmed and quieted my soul? (Ps. 131:2). Put up a stop sign at the intersection of your busy life. Find a place to be alone. Turn off the distractions that keep you from listening to Gods voice, and let Him speak to you as you read His Word. Let Him refresh your heart and mind with the strength to live life well for His glory.
Life can make me weary and stressed at times.
I want to stop right now though, Lord, and take the time
to quiet my soul before You. Speak to me from
Your Word. Please refresh me.
Stop and take a break from the busyness of life so that you can refuel your soul.

The four remained together from 1953 until 1997 without a single change in personnel. What a stunning statistic....congratulations to the Four Tops.

Sorry for my extended absence - I've been hobnobbing with some Marines on another forum.
Sorry your payroll was such an ordeal - I figured that a Wednesday holiday would not be tasty for you. Put your feet up and have a nice glass of wine!

THE SOLDIERS CODE
Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower addresses troops of the 101st Airborne Division 5Jun1944 prior to D-Day Normandy
The Soldiers Code
1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.
3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.
5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.
6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.
