I searched FR and found no notice of the recall, and sure have not seen it on the news.
I know I've been hit and miss due to a lot of health issues this past year, but we do watch the nightly news. And anything this big would have caught my attention because I keep Maalox in the house for occasional mild stomach upset/reflux when I eat something that disagrees with my stomach.
Went to buy a bottle of Maalox and tried several different stores and types, finally one of the gals at a local Kroger's said Maalox had been RECALLED, they were given no reason, just that it was RED flagged for recall.
Does any one else have any knowledge of this? It would have been common decency to let the public know a commonly taken stomach remedy had been pulled from the market.

...which are alkaline :) So, you’re right. The biggest problem is dehydration though. Most people do NOT drink enough water and that causes heartburn. There’s a great book out titled ‘Your Body’s Many Cries for Water’. Really spells out the benefits.
And, just in case someone is thinking they drink coffee or iced tea, soda, etc., that not only does not work it hurts as they are diuretics. Pure, clean, room temp water.

I want to expand on what you said about supps too Gail. Be very careful taking calcium. We get alot of it in our diet and if you don’t get enough mag, calcium won’t dissolve. You also have to take the ‘right’ kind of mag. Most mags are bound to oxide which does not absorb. Check your labels. If you insist on taking calcium take at least 2x the amount of mag as cal. You should also take salt in warm water and drink it. Salt and potassium work together. Throw out your table salt and buy a good, unrefined salt like Celtic Sea Salt.
Works well for those who are constipated. Common upset stomach is another critter with a different approach I’d think.
Now you have me in a big problem, my salt intake is very limited.
And I do get 2x as much Mag as Calcium.
Celtic Sea Salt is not available in our area. Morton’s or Hain’s is about all you see or some odd brand.
Novartis’ Maalox acid relief OTC shortage causes concerns

Novartis Nebraska plant closure, owing to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raising serious concerns over manufacturing, has led to shortage of Maalox acid relief over the counter (OTC) drug in Canada.
The shortage is said to have come about at the Novartis’ plant manufacturing large number of OTC products, including Benefibre, Buckley’s, Excedrin, NeoCitran, Otrivin and Triaminic.
In March 2012, Novartis Canada said that there could be possible shortage of the number of OTC products and was not sure to when they would supply, owing to the upgrade going on at its manufacturing facility.

The local supermarket now how three different “store” brands, and almost no “name” brands. The value of products for sale seems to be going down as fast as the money supply is going up. What a coincidence!

There was (is) a shortage on that too. Our vet is rationing it...3 months supply for current clients/patients, 1 month for non-clients. Our vet told us the shortage was coming, so we bought ahead.
For acid reflux, do a low carbohydrate diet. Worked like a charm for me.
Don’t know about the Maalox, but I had the exact same experience with Tylenol. I am a newshound, and had heard not a whisper of anything about it, yet all store shelves were bare.

I was needing to restock the medicine cabinet the other day and couldn't find several OTC items that we normally have on hand. One item was some bottles of magnesium citrate for constipation. I had to get them from behind the pharmacy counter!?! I bought all they had which was just 4 bottles. I expect to see more of this under ObamaCare. I also suspect that we'll have less and less OTC as Big Brother will be grabbing at more and more control. We're already having to get cold and cough meds from behind the counter and "they" are keeping a list of everyone who buys them.
I've heard that some prescription meds are also getting substituted with inferior generics that are messing with people's systems. Such as Warfarin has long been the generic for Coumadin but now patients can't get that so have been getting their refills with some other generic and it's not working. There's also been problems with some birth control prescriptions getting delivered on time so that ladies are having to change to different brands and some doctors aren't informing them to use extra protection for a couple because of the lag time, sigh. So, you might want to have that tinfoil hat handy because if we can't keep a minimum home medicine cabinet, then something is going on.
The FDA is manipulating supply by shutting down plants and recalls.
Both OTC and prescription drugs have lines that are in short supply and/or missing.
This administration is evil.
Reminds me about the aspirin shortage in the former Soviet Union about the time it dissolved. They had one factory & some sort of disaster destroyed a significant part of it. I guess the FDA is our answer to the Soviet planned economy.
There is no Pepcid AC or Pepcid complete, either. It’s been gone for over a year.
I just did a search for the Pepcid AC and Pepcid Complete and found that the price had gone up to over $100 for 50 tablets at one store and the lowest price was just under $30 but that store only had 13 left.
Something is up. There was some crazy recall of pepcid products about a year and a half ago and all the products disappeared.
I imagine that it is the same with Maalox.
