Drinking a daily cup of coffee -- or even several cups -- isn't likely to harm your health, and it may even lower your risk of dying from chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, a new study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests.
NIH followed 400,000 men and women for 13 years, during which 13% died.
In the study, both regular and decaf were associated with a lower risk of dying
Overall, coffee drinkers were less likely than their peers to die during the study, and the more coffee they drank, the lower their mortality risk tended to be. Compared with people who drank no coffee at all, men and women who drank six or more cups per day were 10% and 15% less likely, respectively, to die during the study.
Coffee contains some 1,000 compounds, many of which are health-promoting antioxidants, Freedman says.
"There's some data showing that some of these components may prevent insulin resistance and have a role in diabetes," he says.

To your health!
In that case, I should live to a ripe old age.
Nasty beverage. I almost never drink the stuff. If I die young because of that, no regrets.
I think its all the running to take a leak
And if I drink coffee with my two eggs and buttered toast and pancakes with syrup, I'll live to a ripe old age.
The study is STUPID.
So coffee is good for us? Everyone keep quiet before Moo-chelle starts regulating it..
Jeepers, this story/study has legs! Everyone loves it...and posts it.
Wonder what will happen next week when the Tea-Cartel roll out their financed study that Coffee is the quick knock of the grim reaper and Tea makes you live forevah :>)
But what about those of us who prefer our coffee in an enema?
Coffee is so good that I think of it constantly and when I have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, I just think about a hot steaming cup of coffee from Dunkin Donuts and I find the will power to cast aside the sheets and start my day.
Sometimes I even have coffee at night except I throw a little Kahlua or whiskey in there to counteract the caffeine.
I'm just wondering if you maybe you had a bad experience with coffee. Maybe you happened to get a bad cup in a gas station or something.
We'll deny, deny, deny....as we head for the coffee pot. Silly. ;)

Hmmm - I don’t see anything like what you’re asserting anywhere in the article —
The thrust of the article, and the study, is that people who do the things you mention *with* coffee have a statistically better chance of living longer than people that do them *without*....
So THIS is why I am still alive.
I might outlive Romney... Yeeee Haaaa
They have to stop paying for these studies....a few years ago, in a study, it was said that starting with a cup and a half that it would jack with your cholesterol.....I doubt I believe the prior study nor this.
I just do what I want and do it in Faith and be thankful.
60 in August with no med’s to my name...other than what they require to have on hand to work in Afghanistan.
Butter was bad, butter is good...eggs were bad, eggs are good......I’m sticking with the land of milk and honey.
“The explanation for the study findings “might not be the coffee” Fisher says. “It might be some characteristic of the coffee drinker”.”
So will they now serve healthy coffee in our schools along with the rabbit food and pink slime?
I used to ‘hate’ coffee, probably had it a couple of times when I was a kid made straight or something...I always loved coffee ice cream and coffee milk (eclipse syrup-yum)I like coffee now, 2 sugars - milk or not....
I know loads of people who ‘hate’ coffee but love coffee ice cream - My husband loves coffee but hates coffee ice cream - what’s up with that? lol
I will carry this study theory further and proclaim that coffee ice cream should also be consumed daily to prolong longevity:>)
Coffee: was bad for you, then good for you, no wait, bad for you, now once more good again...

I already have. I’ve had 3-4 cups of black,unsweetened coffee(not decaf)for the past 60 years,and this included through 5 pregnancies.
We all drank coffee and we all had healthy kids.
Love my coffee
