No link yet. I'm just seeing it on CNN. Reuters said Fox called it as well.
And Newt proves once again how he will win.He didnt even beat Ron Paul. The Newtereds are delusional.
I would not have endorsed neither McCain nor Romney.
Endorsements have consequences... as we can see today.
Please tell me I'm misunderstanding, and you don't seriously think that "toxic" comments on FR or any other internet forum had anything to do with Romney winning Illinois.
Yep. Love the cartoon.
I think the unrelenting barrage of garbage heaped upon Perry, Bachman, and Santorum certainly took its toll. And it wasn't just here, this lack of civility is an epidemic. Guess it's like a driver flipping off the other guy or tailgating, some sort of anonymity on the web, brings out the worst in some people.
Since third parties don't win, we need to make the GOP the third party.
That's a tad harsh but I basically agree with every word of it, especially those last 4.
Turnout for Tuesdays Illinois primary in Chicago was a meager 24 percent, ........officials said..... It was the lowest turnout for a presidential primary in the past 70 years.
Looks like nobody else wanted to vote for any of them either with only 24% coming out.
The only two GOP candidates at this stage remaining [as of tonight, 20 March 2012 ] who have won enough won primary/caucus states to meet the threshold of having their names actually put into nomination in Tampa so they can be voted for by the delegates assembled are ROMNEY and SANTORUM?
Which states are it that Gingrich will be picking up in the next few weeks to get to that threshold? What about Louisiana where Santorum has a 9 to 10% lead over his challengers (next state up on the docket), and even there, Romney is appearing ahead of Gingrich?
Tell me who the "spoiler" is on this, at the midway point to the nomination.
Conclusion. It is time for Gingrich to leave the race, but if it takes a beating in Louisana then, so be it. Spite against Romney (as disgusting and deserving as Romney is of this), cannot propel the Speaker ad infinitum, as his fundraising imploded from February and March will probably show the same.
No we need a combined conservative effort here and no further splitting of this vote.
RNC RULE NO. 40, ELIGIBILITY FOR NAME PLACED INTO NOMINATION
The birth of our nation was not pretty. Birth never is. We're going to need a whole other birthing to replicate what has been lost.
Thank you, Mariner. Much appreciated, and you have my forgiveness as requested.
Gingrich is not my enemy and Gingrich supporters should not be my enemy, either.
Tonight's loss in Illinois was not a surprise to me; a win would have been a surprise. I was prepared for this, though as the turnout numbers came in, I was greatly annoyed to realize that in a low-turnout election, more aggressive campaigning by Christian conservatives in the Wheaton area and southern Illinois could have won for Santorum. That's especially true because it looks like Gingrich more or less cleared out of the state to give Santorum an opportunity. I wish things had gone differently, but that's the way things worked out.
Let's move on and try to turn this thing around before Romney does become unstoppable. On that point, those who truly are Gingrich supporters here can agree with those who support Santorum.
Romney simply must be stopped or we risk either 1) a major split in the Republican Party or 2) a veering to the left of the Republican Party as it becomes obvious that conservatives will support Republicans no matter who gets nominated. In either scenario, Obama will win the 2012 election or Romney will win by a narrow margin without adequate congressional support. Either way, it's a recipe for disaster.
Most of it, no.
However, we can't forget the power of black turnout in the South. Blacks traditionally have a horrible turnout percentage. Obama’s 2008 win happened in significant measure because of people who don't usually vote choosing to vote.
The end result is that North Carolina and Virginia are in play with a Romney nomination in ways that would not be with a Gingrich or Santorum nomination. Florida has long since ceased to be Southern in its core demographics except in the panhandle and other northern counties, and if Hispanics don't have a good reason to vote for a Republican, many are likely to vote Democrat. In a worst-case scenario with a highly motivated black turnout and a demotivated Republican base, several other states which usually vote Republican could flip Democrat as well.
I oppose Romney primarily because of ideological reasons — abortion is a core issue for me. However, pragmatic reasons would apply even if I were not dead-set against Romney's flip-flops on abortion, gay marriage, and other key Christian conservative issues.
Let’s see. Santorum comes in first or second in most of the primaries, Gingrich comes in third or fourth. Santorum is in second place in delegates, Newt’s third. The resident genius’ Southern strategy got blown to smithereens by - Santorum. And HE’S the idiot?
Full disclosure: I don’t back ANY of the Four Horsemen.
Mitt Romney is NOT nor has he EVER been a conservative.
“Priebus has let us all down. We need him out of there ~ NOW!”
Priebus didn’t set up this primary system, Steele did, along with the rest of the Repub Leadership (Lugar, McConnell, etc)
No, but Santorum is Romney-Lite. His past endorsements prove it.
Show me where I *ever* said that, that which you claim or infer I said about Romney. Go ahead. Waiting for you to cite such post or posts. Waiting.
And Gingrich posed with Pelosi, announced his belief in global warming, etc., etc. He’s undisciplined, the most unelectable of the candidates [Paul doesn’t count], and running in the bottom tier in the primaries now, with no money, no organization, and almost no shot.
So since Romney is the anti-Christ around here [and I don’t like him] why aren’t all the Newtrinos calling on the Newster to fold up, and back Santorum. I know why Gingrich won’t do it. His ego.
