Candidates often say things when polling in the single digits that come back to haunt them when they start leading the polls. Last October, Rick Santorum gave an interview with an Evangelical blog called Caffeinated Thoughts, in which he said contraception is not okay, and that this would be a public policy issue he would tackle as President. In particular, he said he would get rid of any idea that you have to have abortion coverage or contraceptive coverage as a government policy.

One of the things I will talk about that no President has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country, the whole sexual libertine idea. Many in the Christian faith have said, Well, thats okay. Contraceptions okay.
Its not okay because its a license to do things in the sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. Theyre supposed to be within marriage, they are supposed to be for purposes that are, yes, conjugal, but also [inaudible], but also procreative. Thats the perfect way that a sexual union should happen. We take any part of that out, we diminish the act. And if you can take one part out thats not for purposes of procreation, thats not one of the reasons, then you diminish this very special bond between men and women, so why cant you take other parts of that out? And all of a sudden, it becomes deconstructed to the point where its simply pleasure. And thats certainly a part of itand its an important part of it, dont get me wrongbut theres a lot of things we do for pleasure, and this is special, and it needs to be seen as special.
Again, I know most Presidents dont talk about those things, and maybe people dont want us to talk about those things, but I think its important that you are who you are. Im not running for preacher. Im not running for pastor, but these are important public policy issues. These how profound impact on the health of our society.

Once again, you’ll note the framing of this debate by the left.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ABORTION...
Ill repeat, in case you didnt get that.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT ABORTION.
This a 1st Amendment, separation of church/state issue. This about GOVERNMENT telling churches what they must do, even if it runs counter to their religious beliefs.
Dems are trying to frame this as an abortion issue, because Obamas numbers among women, especially young WHITE women, have collapsed.
REMEMBER WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE, AND HOW THEY THINK.
Which is precisely why if Rick Santorum is the nominee we'd lose in a massive, crushing landslide. Hearing Rick bleat on about the evils of contraception (and gambling, etc) would be a guaranteed loser of an issue. He already comes across as sort of an uncharismatic stick in the mud, add this sort of thing to it and we'd give Obama a electoral mandate this country really might never recover from.
I am sick of it. I am sick of the constant negatives and the arguments over trivial things. Our great country is being systematically destroyed. Let's focus on working to save America.
I don’t care what Rick has to say about how big my family should be. I want him to balance the budget and bring some fiscal sanity to the country. If he insists on entertaining the MSM with his theories on contraception, the MSM who is purposely baiting him with these questions, he can kiss the election goodbye.
This is not the language of a small government conservative.
It is apparently not “OK” with Santorum if people take contraception, he thinks it a public policy issue with a profound impact on the health of our society.
Scary.
Rick Santorum explicitly stated he has no intention of restricting anyone’s free choice to buy contraceptives for themselves.
Which makes this a non issue, except inasmuch as people want to be dishonest and suggest he does intend to make it illegal.
Because the White House and its Journo-list Propagandists are setting the agenda for the entire country. We are talking about what they want us to rather than what truly concerns us. This is what happens when power is increasingly centralized in any country: first, your freedoms become meaningless, and then you lose them.
1) He personally thought bacon was not good for one's overall health, but was not in favor of banning it because what you eat is your own business.
2) He was against the government providing free bacon to citizens.
3) He was against the government forcing organizations who did not want to serve bacon to serve it.
4) He found it especially inappropriate for the government to mandate that Jewish and Muslim organizations to serve bacon.
Rich has never been a small government conservative. He has always been a big government “compassionate” so-call conservative in the GW Bush mold.
He helped bankrupt the country and made Obama possible.
NO way we pick him as our nominee unless we want a permanent Left-wing government in Washington.
I don’t believe Santorum is trying to impose his morals on anyone.
What he is saying is that he should not have to pay for someone else’s mistakes or pleasure or whatever they call their sex life.
I agree 100%, I don’t care if you have sex 20 times a day and get knocked up once a week as long as I don’t have to pay for it.
If you want an abortion-—fine -—pay the man, don’t expect me to . If you want to copulate without getting pregnant-—fin—whay should I have to pay for your fun.
They always bring up that Insurance pays for Viagra. Well I don’t agree with that either.
If you need something to prime your pump, Buy it yourself. Cut that out viagra too.You want a vasectomy it is a relatively cheap operation. Pay for it yourself.
Thank you for clarifying that Rachael Maddow.
And there goes santo.. ..
You and I know that, but the MSM will have a field day with this.
Notice how it’s only “anti-godless-humanist” beliefs that are “controversial”?
It’s never the godless humanist “religious” beliefs that are the problem, encroaching on society.
Because Rick has been discussing contraception, that’s why. He is an idiot for doing so.
