The FDA has won its two-year fight to shut down an Amish farmer who was selling fresh, raw milk to eager consumers in the Washington region, after a judge this month banned Daniel Allgyer from selling his milk across state lines, and he told his customers he'll shut his farm down altogether.
The decision has enraged Mr. Allgyer's supporters, some of whom have been buying from him for six years and who say the government is interfering with their parental rights to feed their children. But the Food and Drug Administration, which launched a full investigation complete with a 5 a.m. surprise inspection and a straw-purchase sting operation against Mr. Allgyer's Rainbow Acres Farm, near Lancaster, said unpasteurized milk is unsafe and said it was exercising its due authority to stop its sale from one state to another.
Adding to Mr. Allgyer's troubles, Judge Lawrence F. Stengel said if he is found to violate the law again he will have to pay the FDA's costs for investigating and prosecuting him.
His customers are wary of talking publicly, fearing the FDA will come after them.
"I can't believe in 2012 the federal government is raiding Amish farmers at gunpoint all over a basic human right to eat natural food," said one, who asked not to be named but who got weekly shipments of eggs, milk, honey and butter from Rainbow Acres. "In Maryland, they force taxpayers to pay for abortions, but God forbid we want the same milk our grandparents drank."
The FDA, though, said the judge made the right call in halting Mr. Allgyer's cross-border sales.
"Intrastate sale of raw milk is allowed in Pennsylvania, and Mr. Allgyer had previously received a warning letter advising him that interstate sale of raw milk for human consumption is illegal," said Siobhan DeLancey...

And yes, the sting deliveries were taken in Maryland, where all freedoms go to die.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Meanwhile, government-approved drugs [that have destructive and deadly side effects] are dispensed like candy.
I hear ya.
Careful...They might go all 'Waco' on the Amish...(and shoot all the dogs, of course).
Exactly.
I didn't leave the conservative movement. It fragmented, hyphenated, and has become virtually meaningless with more 'exceptional' variations. (Those who are conservative, except...).
In short, it left me.
When the likes of Mitt Romney and Chris Christie can be described as 'conservative', the word has meaning only next to totalitarianism for contrast, and more and more, the similarities are striking.
Anyone who doesn’t think that we’re already living in a tyranny are fooling themselves. IMO, we’ve passed any point of return. There is no way to vote ourselves out of this now. No. Way. Prepare, my friends.
“The extremists may refuse to pay taxes, defy government environmental regulations and believe the United States went bankrupt by going off the gold standard.
And I’m a threat to society because I don’t wear seatbelts.

From one joe to another.... It would appear you are ready to come on over to the dark side... small l libertarianism (strict constitutionalist) is the only salvation this country has left.
I have always said that the constitution, as written will piss off liberals and conservatives alike... as a matter of fact, the only difference between a liberal and a social(ist) conservative is which side of the spectrum they wish to control from.
Thanks for the ping!
“I’m against the government telling people what they can and cannot consume, but don’t try and downplay the inherent risk in consuming raw milk. The facts don’t support you.”
Exactly.
I don’t like alcohol and what it does, directly and indirectly. But just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean I am a statist who wants it banned.
I have actually heard liberals gasp in horror when I uttered the phrase
“just because you think it’s a good idea doesn’t mean the government should do it”
I gradually came to realize that the dairy products that Americans are allowed to consume have no flavor. Like when I was in Europe and wondered why the Haagen-Dazs tasted so much creamier and better than here. And why Indian desserts had such a wonderful creamy flavor. You can get some of that back by heating your milk, but it’s not the same. It’s tasteless pap.

I bet in Cuba none of the milk is pasteurized, but you have to pay a kings ransom for the right to put a stamp on it saying that it is. As for it being recent, it’s named after Pasteur, and he died in 1895.
There are newer more effective processes than pasteurization nowadays. there is milk that can be non-refrigerated as long as it isn’t opened. It can sit on a shelf in the grocery store for 6 months or more before expiring. The milk and dairy lobby won’t use it for obvious reasons..............
Agreed. Right now, if the Constitution was followed as intended, there'd be a trainload of oxen gored, on both sides of the aisle.
Most people have no concept what true freedom entails, and little desire to embrace the responsibility which goes with it. They are too busy racking up 'freedoms from' to realize how many 'freedoms to' they have lost.
Yeah, i remember when this patriot act passed... i was floored at the applause this heralded from people on this very website.... all i could think of was the scene from star wars, “ So, this is how democracy dies. With thunderous applause”...
