According to the survey, which was released Monday, 28 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say they support Perry as their party's presidential nominee, with Romney at 21 percent. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is at ten percent, with Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who's making his third bid for the White House, former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain, and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, all at seven percent. The poll indicates that Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota is at four percent, with former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania at three percent and former Utah Gov. and ambassador to China Jon Huntsman at one percent.

How many true conservatives check in on a CNN poll? I surely didnt. If a conservative opposing Perry used CNN as a source for information regarding Perry his supporters would quickly denounce it because it is a liberal source. But when a CNN poll is to their liking suddenly CNN becomes credible, even if those polled were just 'adult Americans' and not the people who really count, likely voters.

(2012 matchup.... CAIN vs UNABLE?)
To: All
My opinion, FWIW...
After the first debate, they interviewed a focus group of about 30 people who watched the debate. Very few of them had even heard of Herman Cain before the debate. After the debate, the vast majority of them (like 25 or so) said he was the winner and they would be inclined to vote for him.
After the debate in Florida, Cain won the straw poll by a huge margin.
A fellow Freeper reported that he was discussing how racist the Tea Party is with his liberal neighbor, and the Freeper asked if the liberal had heard of Herman Cain. The answer was no, he had never heard of him.
My personal opinion is that all of these mainstream polls are going to be skewed towards the well-known NAMES, simply due to name recognition. But as the campaign continues, the more Herman Cain becomes known, the more people will get on board the Cain Train.
Simply put, when people know Cain, they like Cain. If they haven't heard of him YET, they don't vote for him in these polls.
And because people are lazy, they don't know who Herman Cain is YET. They haven't seen him in the headlines and on television commercials, YET, so they don't know him, YET.

Like I have been trying to say for days, people don’t just get their information from watching the debates and or the commentary on the debates, they can get all the information they want on a candidate to see where he actually stands on the issues.
And Perry stand on the issues is great, he just has a hard time articulating in a debate format.

The other thing interesting is that Gingrich is now in the double digits!

Not only that, but Perry would play better with his stance on immigration (NOTE: I don’t like it though).
But the left wants us to go with Romney so they can then beat him up for being a mormon. Trust me...they never went after Hussein’s muslim past but the media will go all out after Romney’s mormon religion.

The immigration issue everyone is up in arms about was passed in 2001. In 2010 Palin campaigned for Perry HARD as the true conservative.
It's amazing the viciousness of the attack on an issue that is over 10 years old. Sort of makes you go hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Perry is finished. I think he is probably working on an excuse to skip the next debate right about now. Man, I would give anything to be a fly on the wall in the Perry camp......the agita must be incredible.

I agree, but do think that it is important that a President be able to articulate his principles and positions when under fire. The President of the U.S. has the world’s most effective bully pulpit and I want our next President to be able to use it to persuade the people to embrace the scope of change that will be needed to pull us out of the debt crisis we are in.

Most Hispanics are leaning to the DNC anyway. The biggest issue for many of them is Obama is black.

Perry's less then ideal stance on two immigration related sub-issues aside. He does have a good conservative governing record and solidly supports the conservative agenda.
Having said that, Perry must do better in future debates. Not to win them necessarily, just be better prepared to get his message out.

I have never in my entire life seen a president debate someone other than when he is running for office, presidents don’t debate, they give speeches and if you have ever heard a Perry speech would would know that he gives amazing speeches.
To: jersey117
It just means Perry needs to brush up and get on top of his game.Translation: An extra coat or two of paint to cover up his old liberal stripes. No thanks.

wrong, because this poll asked adult americans who theyd vote for...not many likely voters. It is bunk. “ <<<
Not hardly. If these are adults only, just imagine the support of voting Americans. Perry is guilty only of running a general election campaign in his primary. The cross overs this election will be tremendous and it will
temper the intransigent Republican minority of the party I’m afraid. Rick gets that. His issues will get their day in a broader court soon, as the new campaign staff gets its feet on the ground and gets the message out against the fiction flackers.
