Perry dominates in South Carolina (PPP Poll has Perry up by 23 pts.)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 8/30/11 | PPP

Raleigh, N.C. – If there was any question that Rick Perry is the new Republican presidential frontrunner before now, PPP’s latest poll of South Carolina confirms it. A week ago, PPP showed Perry jumping to a narrow lead in first-caucus Iowa. Now, he has a double-digit lead in what will likely be the third-voting state. Perry tops with 36% to Mitt Romney’s 16%, Michele Bachmann’s 13%, Herman Cain’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s 8%, Ron Paul’s 5%, Rick Santorum’s 4%, and Jon Huntsman’s 2%. This is a sea change from when PPP last polled the race in June, with Perry not included. Romney led with 30% to Cain’s and Gingrich’s 15%, Bachmann’s 13%, and Paul’s 10%.

If Sarah Palin joins the fray, it has no impact on Perry’s dominance but a lot on Bachmann’s standing. Palin would place third at 10% behind Perry still at 36%, Romney at 13%, followed by Cain’s 9%, and Bachmann and Gingrich tied at 7%.

The people that do the polling ALL share the same goals! There is no pollster that wants Sarah Palin as President, that is what it boils down to.

So you are so naive that you think polling is a science, and the people doing it have no agenda and are absolutely not capable of showing any bias? This is what you believe?

I will give you an example of what I mean, Pre Palin as far as I am concerned, I never heard of her until probably 2007.

Fox News Opinion Dynamics based in Manchester NH, terrible bias outfit. Their very last poll just prior to the 2004 election, they did the poll over the Halloween Weekend.

released the poll even though they knew it was troubling, it showed Kerry up going into the final few days. Everybody from CNN TO NBC etc, you name it shouted this poll from the rooftops.

For sure it was wrong, Thank God! They had the man in charge of that poll on a few days after the election to talk about it, he was sheepish, admitted that they thought it questionable but released it anyway. He said their first mistake was polling on Halloween when many Republicans /voters were taking their kids out to trick or treat.

They were trying to throw the election.

Have you never noticed that anytime a Republican leads in any race, that the Democrats always close at the end? That is the pollsters trying to manufacture opinion.

ALL the pollsters from Rasmussen down, all personally dislike Sarah Palin, this is not even debatable, they did the same thing to GW Bush, but even worse to Gov Palin.

I am certain there is nothing I can say to convince you/anybody, but it is true, ALL the pollsters allow their personal bias to determine their polling.

George Gallup was a wonderful Christian man and a pioneer in polling, he was probably the last honest pollster that could be said used scientific methods.

Name me a pollster that is not MSM or Rep Establishment, there are none.

The other thing is this, when a pollster has a poll that is not in line with the others he may actually edit it. NBC/WSJ allows Up Chuck Todd to take part in the polling, as to the wording of the questions etc.

It`s not like it`s against the law to make up phony polls, nobody is charged or goes to jail.

People that believe in political polling are so naive, what can I say.

MSM/Rep est wanted to push Bachmann because they knew she was a loser from the getgo, now they are pushing Perry, they will start to turn on him.

Right now one of their main goals is to try and persuade Gov Palin to not get in the race, this is what a good part of the Perry surge is about.

The Pollsters do not want Gov Palin to run

It’s just an obvious twisting of “RomneyCare”. There is no Perry equivalent, that I am aware of. There is no “PerryCare”.

“If your going to attack the character or record of a fellow republican come up with something new to attack.”

Okay, well then, when it comes to Perry we can’t attack his character or his record.

Now who was that guy who ran for the Presidency in 2008, whose supporters still use that same line on us? It’ll come to me at some point..., hang in there.

I would have about as much of a chance as Cain.

Americans do not elect non-politicians (other than victorious generals) to the top office in the land. Cain couldn’t even win a Senate seat in one of the most conservative states in the Union. There is no way he wins the nomination. He has reached his peak already.

Nor have they elected a House member to the Presidency for almost two centuries. These are impossible long shots.

They’ve turned this into RINO central USA.

Nothing new on this site. So shocking that people here are the best of the best and I mean that, but when they come to picking their presidential candidate they certainly go with the RINO. I mean they were slobbering about McCain last election (until he lost and then he was a villain). They slobbered about Bush the election in 2000 until they found out he was a compassionate conservative and the blasted him for it......I guess their favorite RINO this round is Perry. I just don't get it. Bachmann is 100 percent more conservative then Perry. Sometimes I am just stumped by the folks here.

Actually, I find it rather amusing what you started out with there. We’ve actually seen it on this forum already.

If nobody is concerned about Bachmann, then why was she targeted here?

On matters political you are such a sensible fellow. This is not the first time I have been tempted to say so.

We're two conservative Catholics who love our country, so it's not surprising that we see eye-to-eye on nearly everything.

Romney has been undermining conservatism a lot longer than McCain has. Btw, you trust Romney? I don’t. In 2008 McCain beat Romney. Do you really think Romney would have done better than McCain-Palin? I don’t.

I do know, FR supported the McCain-Palin ticket. Its Jim’s stated policy that FR would never support Willard back in 2008 or for 2012. McCain with Palin was a different story and a much different choice. Thankfully we won’t have that choice to make again.

The problem for conservatives of all stripes is when it dawns on them that what they’re reading really could be correct.

What do you do if Perry really is leading?

What do you do if he really does become the nominee?

I have a grad student daughter in Fort Worth who totally despises Perry and I was, as often is the case, inclined to agree with her. Cincinatus's Wife posted a very balanced article regarding the 15 or so greatest objections to Perry's candidacy. Although the article was intended as a response to his critics, I did not regard it as any sort of whitewash. It did get me to keep an open mind on Perry. I may or may not support him in the long run. Right now, I don't know if Sarah s running and I find Michelle Bachmann a very appealing candidate.

I think I know where you ae coming from and that is fine. If you are right about Perry being too similar to Dubya, I may well wind up agreeing with you.

My point is that, regardless of which candidate among Palin, Perry and Bachmann, we FReepers may support individually, it is too early (at least in my quite fallible opinion) for us to be on the attack against any one of those three. I certainly agree that we ought not to have another moderate Republican administration. Right now, the most credible threat of that is Romney who has not a principle to his name and has no business even running for the GOP nomination.

I have responded to one of your posts as a way of simultaneously responding to Perry supporters, Bachmann supporters and Palin supporters as well. My response was not personal to you, although it may have seemed that way. I know you are not trying to give me a hard time. You are certainly every bit as entitled to your opinion and to voice it as I am. For what it is worth, I seldom disagree with your posts and expect that to continue.

God bless you and yours and may He always guide each and every conservative in our decision-making now and in the future.

“He created 90% of Texas jobs, through the govt. sector, not the private sector.

This talking point has been thoroughly debunked. It is true that about 25% of all of the new jobs in Texas over the past 10 years were government jobs. However, that number includes all levels of government employment: counties, cities, school districts, even the Federal government. So that number reflects police, sheriffs, school teachers, even Army and Air Force personnel and civilian staff working at military bases. Are you going to hold Perry responsible for the hiring that those governments did?

On the other hand, during that period, Texas created more net new private sector jobs than any other state.”

Indeed, over the last decade much of the Federal military forces Stationed in theses united states have been moved to Texas.

Which is one of the reasons Texas has such a huge military(including ex-military) population.

While its true McCain has been undercutting conservatism for years, not to mention being a real sob. Romney remains an even worse candidate for the GOP in 2012. Since 2007, thread after thread on FR made it crystal clear that Romney was a lifelong liberal who rejected both the Reagan agenda and the Contract With America. His flip flops on abortion, guns, immigration and other issues are legendary. Romney's rhetoric over the last 4 years favoring conservatism is nothing but the opportunism of political expediency. Willard remains a phony and a fraud.
Well said, and worth repeating.

I'm hoping there's a scenario in which Willard doesn't even win NH. I'd like to see him go down swinging with a solid 0 in his win column at the end of the primary campaign.

I appreciate that. However, I read two items that concern me on Perry’s listing. One is that he wants more farmers from Mexico AND he wants more women and minorities hired. That is not a concern for you?

Hey, how about Nancyboy Kirk? Wouldn't he bring the alternatively inclined community on board???

Not that I would be caught dead voting for him. Just sayin'.

On second thought, living in Illinois, I will probably be voting in Chicago after I die but that means not for Nancyboy.

100% accurate. Bachmann is 100% more conservative than RINO Mitt Perry.

Bear in mind, back in 2007 there was a purge of Giuliani supporters from FR. RINO Rick endorsed Giuliani for president. Based on his support for pro-abortion Giuliani, Perry probably would have been banned from FR himself. Yet these 'conservatives' defend him and even say he is conservative. That couldn't be further from the truth.

The sooner we get rid of Willard, the sooner we can get the GOP back to its conservative roots. A battered Romney would be great too see.
