Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Best of luck to everyone, and I'll look for your updates once we have power.
We just got our power back at 7.30 P Sunday. We were without electricity for almost exactly 23 hours.
How are things for you now? Prayers.
Realize that the previous record was from when Floyd came through and flooded the crap out of the region.
Realize we have seen major flooding from Irene because, although Irene averaged two inches less than Floyd, the rain was on top of already-record rainfall, that in some drainage basins they saw record flooding.
And realize we are very grateful that there was no nearby frontal boundary like what happened with Floyd and Agnes to amplify the tropical rainfall, and realize that us in the NE are not just being wimps, but realized this could have been really, really bad and are grateful that it was just bad.
Hey there IT. Thanks much for checking in. Good to know all is well. Sounds like your chat with the trees was successful.
All good news! Thanks for your update!
There are news stories of Cuomo talking about how THIS DAM needs to be inspected for 'possible' damage because of a small New York earthquake. Earliest story I see is from 8/27. Cuomo said that while the 2.9 magnitude earthquake Saturday was small." http://www.whec.com/news/stories/s2259407.shtml?cat=565
People in this area have been told to evacuate.
I am sorry to report, that at the end of the day a body was found floating in one of our marinas. He apparently came to the Island to check his boat this morning.
He was found late this afternoon by my friend (who owns the marina next door). I’m sure he will be counted as one of Irene’s victims, and rightly so. Prayers for his family.
Prayers up. I fear he will not be the last. The amount of rain we have received in PA is about half of a regular years amount. There will be sinkholes sooner than later.
Sad news. Thanks for your local update.
We will say special prayers for him on tuesday clyde260.(((((Hugs))))
Was it Hillary or Senator Landrieu that you remember? Every democrat used the suffering of the people on tv screens to bash President Bush.
Remember how the media criticized him for not landing in NOLA when he was flying from Texas back to DC! When people were still being rescued from rooftops!!!
Fingers crossed on Dominion.
So sorry to hear that! Very sad. God bless his loved ones.
So sorry to hear that sage..
Sorry to hear the news of the two people in your area. Very tragic indeed.
Saying a prayer.
Good news on the lady in Granville. They found her in time. It was tough. Horrific flooding in that backwoods area and it had just gotten dark.
As I suspected, my son and fiancee on Long Island had a much easier go of it than upstate. Daughters in Albany area and Lake George area to my north had a much rougher time. The wind died very abruptly here about 15 minutes ago. Glad it’s over.
My first thought.
I hope that all is well with you and hubby and there wasn’t to much damage. Don’t you just hate it when these storms come through at night? The imagination goes berserk imagining what is happening.
