'God the Father' Banished by Mainline Ddenomination
WorldNetDaily ^ | July 5, 2011 | Bob Unruh

The United Church of Christ, the denomination whose Chicago pastor Jeremiah Wright blasted the United States and white people for years from the pulpit while Barack Obama sat in his pews, has decided to banish God "the Father" from its organizational documents.

A report from Eric Anderson on the denomination's website confirmed that delegates to the UCC's "General Synod 28" agreed late Monday to a series of proposed amendments to the constitution and bylaws. The vote was 613 in favor of the changes, 171 against and 10 abstaining.

The changes include a pointed deletion of a reference to God "as heavenly Father," which has been part of Christendom's description of the Trinity for millennia – the three persons of God being the heavenly Father, Christ the Son and Savior, and the Holy Ghost, the counselor and comforter.

This kind of crap is why I no longer attend any church services. I no longer trust any mainstream church as all seem to be heading in this direction for the past 30 years.

I really believe that all have been infiltrated by Satan and are being systematically destroyed from within.

As a former member of the United Methodist Church, it morphed out from under me decades ago. Now it seems all of them are following suit.

1Jn 2:20-25
(20) But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
(21) I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
(22) Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
(23) Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
(24) Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
(25) And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

A few notable members of UCC (hardly a bunch of “right-wingers”): Sen Daniel Akaka (D-HI), Sen Max Baucus (D-MT), Gov Jon Corzine (D-NJ), Gov Howard Dean (D-VT), Sen Bob Graham (D-FL), Vice President Hubert Humphrey, President Barack Obama, Sen William Proxmire (D-WI), Julian Bond, William Sloane Coffin, Bill Moyers, Leonard Pitts, and Andrew Young.

Add to your list Rev Barry Lynn {Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State}.

That’s sad. Maybe you just haven’t found the religion or church that is right for you. I’m not trying to be pushy, but have you considered the Catholic Church? It could be the one for you.

Aye, for me the "beginning of the end" of my ELCA affiliation was the "Formula of Agreement" with the Reformed, accelerated by the feminazi language of the 2007 ELCA hymnal Evangelical Lutheran Worship. My departure was not about sex,but about language.

The new ELCA hymnal should have had more truth in advertising the denomination.

(I'm not the author of this paean to a with-it church.)

(To "A Mighty Fortress")

Of left-wing causes is our church
Eternally supportive.
From fad to modern fad we lurch,
Each shallower and more short-lived.
Our consciousness is raised
By media we’re praised!
Our craft and power are great –
Abetted by the state,
On earth is not our equal!

Did we to Christian truth restrict
Ourselves, ‘twould be horrendous.
Its letter cold would contradict
Our self-indulgent splendors.
Let creed and conscience go
And decency also;
The Lord’s name we intone
For reasons of our own –
Advancing our agendas.

....”In the UCC, our language for God, Christ and the Holy Spirit … is preferred to be more open for different expressions of the Trinity,” she said. “Heavenly Father is just one vision.”.....

Huh?

Of course, I’m familiar with a statement like that, having once been an ELCA member. That still does not change the fact that it is utter nonsense and drivel, and soul-destroying to boot.

The ELCA, UCC, Episcopalians, etc. have cut themselves off from the Fathers of the First and Second Ecumenical Councils. They are heretics to the extreme. Anyone in any of these denominations who wants to be in communion with the Body of Christ should get out FAST!!!!

....Abetted by the state....

You’ve got it!!!!

The evil communist obama in the US and the evil communist EU in Europe are waging a two-pronged attack on Christianity. As usual, Orthodox Christians are foremost among the victims, especially those in Serbia.

well, the Puritans had their own innovations and once one allows some innovations or re-forming, then it can get out of hand.

I notice that this just refers to God as a spirit, no indication that Jesus Christ is God or that the Holy Spirit is God

This is modalism

See, iscool -- this is the ultimate end of such modalistic philosophy, to deny Christ's and the Holy SPirit's divinity

What can anyone expect? Once reformatting starts, it continues.... we saw this in the reformation of the reformation in the 1800s with Charles TAze Russell, Joseph Smith and Ellen G White — and this is continuing today.. The reforming just let to a vicious cycle ending in this and worse to follow

That’s too bad. I’m sorry to hear it. My comments were intended to reflect the reality that a guy like Wright could preach what he has been preaching, and still remain a person in good standing in the church.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but the World Council of Churches is a very Leftist organization. It’s impact on member churches is something folks need to keep tabs on.

It makes me wonder if some of the United Methodist Church’s problems could be tracked back to that organization.

Nope, not harmonizing w/ Islam, seems like maybe harmonizing with feminism?

"A Local Church is composed of persons who, believing in the triune God, accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and depending on the guidance of the Holy Spirit."

Well, I was born and bred an Episcopalian, and the churches I attended were fine, back in the day, mostly High Anglican.

But I converted to Catholicism in college, having become convinced that the Church of England could not be the ONE true catholic and apostolic church of the creed. Because it was hardly universal, and could hardly trace its roots back to the Apostles.

I wouldn’t let all this heresy and silliness drive you away from the Church, however. If that happens, then Satan wins. You should try to find a decent church somewhere in your vicinity. As for myself, I still believe that the Catholic Church is the true church, corrupted though it is by men. That has happened in the past, at various times, but the Church has always come through.

Well, they call Jesus Christ their Savior and recognize that Jesus was God manifest in the flesh...

In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior, you have come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself.

They are saying that Jesus is God here...What more do you want???

Surely you jest...."the man of Nazareth" means that Jesus is God?

"you have come to us..." says nothing of how>

I'll stick with "God from God, light from Light, true God from true God, of one being with the Father..."

I have been moving away from the ELCA ever since I attended a Delaware-Maryland Synod Assembly that seemed more concerned with liberal politics than the Word of God. I am just very happy that my lovely wife and I have found a Lutheran church where we are welcomed and we can be positive that we will stick to Scripture rather than all of Mark Hanson's kum-ba-ya garbage. Heck, even my very old-fashioned mother-in-law loves it there!

I was baptized in my grandparents’ United Methodist church in the Tidewater area of Virginia many years ago, but will not set foot in a UM church unless I am going to a wedding or funeral. Sadly, it seems that “mainline” now means politically correct and Biblically incorrect...
