Kellogg's Corn Pops
The cereal business is not what is used to be, at least for products that are not considered "healthy." Among those is Kellogg's Corn Pops ready-to-eat cereal. Sales of the brand dropped 18% over the year that ended in April, down to $74 million. That puts it well behind brands like Cheerios and Frosted Flakes, each which have sales of over $200 million a year. Private label sales have also hurt sales of branded cereals. Revenues in this category were $637 million over the same April-end period. There is also profit margin pressure on Corn Pops because of the sharp increase in corn prices. Kellogg's describes the product as being "crispy, glazed, crunchy, sweet." Corn Pops also contain mono- and diglycerides, used to bind saturated fat, and BHT for freshness, which is also used in embalming fluid. None of these are likely to be what mothers want to serve their children in an age in which a healthy breakfast is more likely to be egg whites and a bowl of fresh fruit.

2. A&W
A large part of my teen years was “cruzin the loop” and hanging out at the A&W. Practically every Saturday there was an impromptu car show featuring the nicest rides in the valley.
“All things must pass”
I remember their old name and marketing, but they are not politically correct enough to survive in this era.
I worked at an A&W in high school...$1.15 an hour. The guy that owned the franchise was a slave driving skinflint.
I still miss Burger Chef.
But seriously...walking through a Sears is a bit jarring - it’s so empty and quiet. I felt like a deer on the first day of gun season as the heads of ever staffer snapped around as they spotted a live customer.
People need to think outside the box. All breakfast foods are revolting. I never ate breakfast until I realized I could eat other things. Eat sandwich or soup or salad for breakfast. On rare occasions I have some pancakes or an omlet for um dinner.
I miss Kellogs OKs, Sugar jets, Puffa Puffa Rice, and my personal favorite, Calvin and Hobbes’ cereal Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs!
Wow - Sears too.
The founder/owner of Marion’s Piazza (Dayton OH pizza institution and yes it’s ‘piazza’) used to visit each store to personally collect the coins from the penny gumball machines. Bartenders were instructed to leave at least an inch of foam head on a pitcher i.e. one inch less liquid.
I liked the cereal (it was certainly tastier than Kix), but they were sort of like a school whose team mascot was some amorphous blob, rather than anything recognizable: hard to take to heart and love.
Breakfast foods revolting? The best meal of the day. So many choices - cereal, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage....
You just miss the sugar. I would suggest a good donut place. Much tastier.
Ya beat me to it. (: sorta :)
Well thats good to know.
I remember those, crunch golden nuggets of synthetic, reconstituted stuff. A little bland without a good showering of sugar, though.
Most people eat cereals. And they are yucky.
cereal aisles always seem to expand like in “The Matrix” and its ‘we need lots of guns’ scene.
