INDIANAPOLIS Refocusing on the nation's economic struggles, President Barack Obama welcomed news Friday that the economy unexpectedly added more than 200,000 jobs last month. "We are regaining our footing," he said.
The president spoke during a visit to a transmission plant in Indianapolis, even as the killing of Osama bin Laden continued to dominate headlines and much of the president's time.
From Indianapolis he was to travel to Fort Campbell, Ky., to thank the Navy SEALs who stormed bin Laden's compound in Pakistan and shot him dead, and the helicopter operators who got them there.
But first, at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis, the president promoted his clean energy agenda while offering an optimistic assessment of the economy's growth. April's labor market report marked the third straight month in which more than 200,000 jobs were created, the best three-month hiring spree in five years and a sign of increasing confidence in the private sector.
"We've made this progress at a time when our economy's been facing some serious headwinds," the president told workers, citing high gas prices and the earthquake in Japan. "There will undoubtedly be some more challenges ahead, but the fact is that we are still making progress," he said. "And that proves how resilient the American economy is, and how resilient the American worker is, and that we can take a hit and we can keep on going forward."

$14 Trillion in debt - up $5 TRILLION since 2008. Over $100 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities?
Yep, smooth sailing from here on out.
I like how he acts like his actions have nothing to do with the price of energy or the rising consumer prices across the board.
The unemployment rate went UP. MORE people are out of jobs.
And the media is letting him get by with celebrating additional jobs as if it’s getting better.
In other news, the chocolate ration will remain at 30 grams per week, and Oceania is still at war with Eastasia.
I heard this in the car at the top of the hour news. ‘Obama is celebrating’ a rapidly growing job market. These people live in a different universe.
Deficit spending ongoing at a rate of approximately $2 per hour per taxpayer every hour of every day. Yeah, things look great to me!!
Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.
Wasn’t 60 thousand of them Mac Donald’s low paying jobs?
As long as the media keeps stirring up a new batch of Kool Aid, the masses will keep drinking it up .
Zero, you are an idiot....
Keep talking tho...talk yourself right out of a job...
Easy for him to say... He’s causing the “hit”.
The media is on his side...they are as faithful in their Goebbel's-style propoganda for him as if he personally signed their paychecks.
just wow...multiple 240w dryer cords would be needed for a volt to turn an allison tranny...
guess these UAW dumbasses will get the memo that their jobs are gone in a formal whitehut letterheaded email sometime next week...
CNN online didn't mention the unemployment rate jumped to 9%, but they did have this article:
CNN: Analysis: Jobs matter, unemployment rate doesn't
Yep, they are carrying the water for him.
I half-expected a similar line to come out of all of their changes to the UBL story.
There needs to be an accounting for those that gave up and decided to jump off the cliff of unemployment.
Obama isn’t worried about having to sleep under a bridge, but for millions of now unemployed Americans it’s a distinct possibility.
9/11 proved we could take a hit and recover.
However, what we won’t survive is a concerted effort by leftists in power, and even more, the people who put them there.
I’m getting tired of hearing the word “unexpected” from these
incompetent fools.
