In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV Friday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said President Barack Obamas decision not to fully enforce the Defense of Marriage law has sparked a constitutional crisis as he has directly violated his constitutional duties by arbitrarily suspending a law.
Gingrich for the first time raised the specter of Obamas removal from office, noting that, if a President Sarah Palin had taken a similar action, there would have been immediate calls for her impeachment.
Obama Attorney General Eric Holder said on Wednesday that the administration will not defend the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act in the courts, which has banned recognition of same-sex marriage for 15 years. President Clinton signed the act into law in 1996.
Obamas decision to forego a legal defense of the law has caused a firestorm of anger from conservative groups.
Gingrich slammed Obama for his decision, telling Newsmax that he is not a one-person Supreme Court and his decision sets a very dangerous precedent that must not be allowed to stand.

Newt is running for President and wants to be relevant.
Biden would not purposely set out to destroy our Republic. He would likely replace all the O's communist, anti-Capitalist cronies. Obama is a cancer on our Republic. He has a seething hatred for all that has made America great. He lives to destroy the United States of America from within.
SCOTUS is apparently just riding the bench while the waters rise around us. Maybe they will do something to serve the Country unless riding the bench is their job nowadays. Whatever, I’m disappointed about the “checks and balances” I heard about in government classes.
Of course he is just ask him.
That’s fine. Let Newt be the one to throw the political ‘Molotov cocktail’ into the fray.
You are missing one essential point, zero stated he found the law unconstitutional, and, therefore, will not defend it in court. what part of he isn’t a pharoh to decide which laws he will or will not defend?
We have 3 branches of government - not zero’s one man rule.
When Newt addresses the subject of ‘impeachment’ on Hannity’s FNC show some night; THEN I’ll be impressed.
Hey Newt, what happened?? You went from schmoozing with San Fran Nan and endorsing Didi Scozzafava to actually taking a stand against Hussein!! Did the November vote send you back to your closet for your “conservative disguise?”
Impeachment would look politically motivated. Heck, everything does when our side tries to do the right thing. We need to find a way to hold him accountable and make him fulfill his constitutional duties, though. We need to do it in a way that puts egg on his face. Impeachment is not the answer, not in this media environment.
Isn’t Obama more or less doing the same thing with the immigration laws that are currently on the books?
It seems like Congress should step up and condemn Obama for the latest fiasco. On the other hand, ignoring laws seems common not matter who is POTUS. Of course, Obama has taken it one step more by publishing a decision to ignore and not support a specific law.
Obama wants an impeachment process. He wants to be “victimized” as Clinton was.
Then, with all due respect, you just don't get it.
Right, Just keep hammering the bum, and his goons. Keep them stirred up
“Generally speaking, a constitutional crisis is a situation in which separate factions within a government disagree about the extent to which each of these factions hold sovereignty.”
That’s one definition of a constitutional crisis, and it’s not the same thing as a breach or dereliction of a constitutional duty.
The Blaze is blocked as well...are we under cyber attack from the CommUnionistas?
The congress couldn’t get rid of Bill Clinton when they had him dead to right. Does Newt actually think this PC country would impeach the first real black president?
